I need to get a lot of mine split have about 20 cords of walnut to split and 3 of madrone. Have a couple cords of oak split and a stacked a couple cord split stacked of mixed origin that will get burned first. They guy I worked for this season has a couple hundred acres two miles from me and several dead oak trees topped my wood box off the other day from wood from his place. I haven't had a wood pile this big in years. When did you last have your chimney swept?

I burned a lot of Eucalyptus when I lived in California, cleaned the chimney yearly, but one year I had a chimney fire in my freestanding fireplace. I am not exaggerating when I say that it looked like a jet engine blasting out of the top, with a firefall pouring down the sides of the stack.
I eventually got a handle on it, but that was scary as hell.
I ended up getting rid of it all, and put an electric attic fan where the chimney was. My roof was ok, but the neighbors roof with rotten shingles burned and went out. The slumlord finally came over after my chimney was gone and looked suspiciously at me as he replaced shingles. Any other person, I would have accepted responsibility for, but he was telling his gangster tenants that I was the one calling the cops on them when it was everyone else in the neighborhood that told me it was them.

I did pull the wood stove insert out and cleaned everything before starting a fire this fall I have about a cord of eucalyptus. The most heat value for wood I have ever burned is Olive that burns hot and lasts a long time.

When we got our wood burner installed in our house, we were schooled by the installers about the need to burn dry or seasoned wood. The guy said that in an open fire, about 70% of the heat goes up the chimney so the chimney is hot, and so it's ok to burn wet wood in an open fire as any water remains as a gas until it gets out into the atmosphere. In a wood burning stove, 70% of the heat (or maybe 80%) goes into the room, which means the chimney is relatively cooler and any water in the wood will condense on the flue forming creosote, which will then cause the chimney fire. We only burn kiln dried firewood to make sure that never happens.

That's pretty much everyone here. At least it's good to know we're not the only ones affected by it, but we're actually not at that level yet - we're around £1 per litre here, which would be around $1.20 per litre in dollars. But we rely on either oil or gas for about two thirds of the year.

I don't think that you have the oil production because of different factors than in the US.

The good news is I have an appointment with the lawyer again tomorrow anyway.

Penn Valley Pipe Club met today in, of course, Penn Valley. Two attendees. Gypo and Sperrytops. Sperrytops smoked Salty Dog for the first time, and Gypo got an early Christmas present. Good gathering of good friends. Next meeting, well, to be scheduled. Sometime in the spring, I'd like to make a trip over the hill and meet you guys. Think it would be fun.
