I think mine was a TRS-80. I think that was the model number. Later I got a Cambridge (Z88?) that, by heroic work-arounds, I could use with my early Macs. Oh, how I lusted after a Mac laptop which did not exist at the time.

My first computer, and I came to it late, was an Apple II. Loaded with "Visicalc", I would prepare a spreadsheet, press the "Recalc" button, get up and get a cup of coffee while it thought about my changes.

Whatever floats your boat. No way, Jose! As Zach said in another thread, no offense to Joe Lankford, he was obviously a great blender, if I was a Lata-holic maybe I would be tempted, but I rarely smoke what I have on hand...and I have plenty. But it does seem outrageously priced, and i cannot help that they think...Well the artist has died and this is his last masterpiece.

As with other artists, the dead ones don’t get the raise.

My first was a Tandy 1000 EX, I can't remember its specs. Years later a ham radio buddy sold me what I coined the predecessor to the laptop. I think Xerox built it but I can't remember. It was the size of a 13" B&W TV, the portable kind. It was loaded with a version of DOS. It had a fold-down keyboard, and he had installed a 25MB hard drive that had to be partitioned into two logical drives for the thing to see all of it, and some interesting proprietary software. I used it for Packet Radio, an early form of digital radio in Ham Radio.
I kept that thing around for a long time just because it was interesting. I finally parted with it when we lost our house in Dayton Oregon in 2009. Sold that and a bunch of other antiquated PC parts I'd been carting around to a kid who was into that stuff for pennies. (It was worth only pennies unless you were a collector).

The SPC blends have gone up since I bought them last.

I still have my first Macintosh, a 180c notebook with a 8" color screen and and a 150mb SCSI hard drive. It cost $3600 when I got it in the late 80's and it was too slow to use from day one. The battery barely lasts long enough to boot the danged thing.

Happy December, everyone. I’m celebrating the last month of a truly awful year. Let’s hope ‘23 is some improvement. What are the odds?

I hear you Bob, hope you have a good next year, hard to stay positive with the way the country is going, memories sometimes are a good thing, gonna visit some cemeteries and say hello to some people, no it’s not morbid, it’s a good thing to sometimes talk to them, I tell my Mom and Dad how their Grandchildren are doing. My time to get talked to is coming closer.

Let’s hope “that time” is a long way off still, Brad. Yes, it is good to keep in touch with our roots.

Loaded two floppies. Hahaha. I actually carried that thing on airplanes. No wonder I have arthritis in my hands now.

I worked in a shop repairing Compaq computers and sometimes people would bring in 13 year old Compaq suitcases and true "laptops" and want them fixed. There wasn't a single part that we could order and the Internet wasn't at a point where you could search for anything in the world. They would get mad because we couldn't do anything for them.

I had one of those Compaq boat-anchors. Command-line DOS. Argh! It’s like memories of root canals.

Just cracking walnuts for Christmas time for the family and a couple others. Been home taking care of Little Guy he has been sick again since Tuesday. All done for the logging season. It has been a good year for the most part. Thank you to my forum friends that helped make it a good year.
