Just cracking walnuts for Christmas time for the family and a couple others. Been home taking care of Little Guy he has been sick again since Tuesday. All done for the logging season. It has been a good year for the most part. Thank you to my forum friends that helped make it a good year. Ted, hope that Little Guy shakes this bug quickly. Thinking that his Lego layout is gonna cover all the floor space this winter. Enjoy this time with him.

Just when it looked like I'd take December off, someone put in two weeks notice and I've been extended another 13 week contract in Prescott. This time, it's 2nd shift so I won't be getting up at 0345. ππ

Discovered an interesting βputer trick this morning. Putting your zip code into the address bar (I use duckduckgo) will give you an amazing array of data about where you live. My zip covers 450 sqmiles and includes a small town. For the whole zip there are slightly fewer than 2 people per sqmile. Lots more data, too, some of it not so encouraging about economicsβ but thatβs true all over the High Plains. Try it. Itβs fun.

Hispanics are white. There's not a breakdown of Hispanic and non Hispanic whites.

Your Household Income average is twice ours in this zip code, 87524. There are only 260 of us wretches. A Merry Band of Outlaws, we! π

We went to the Linden Christmas parade and there were maybe 80 people there. Went into some of the stores on the Square as this was supposed to be the big Pre Christmas shopping promotion. We would have probably spent a couple of hundred dollars but the phone and internet was down for the 3 county area. No credit cards. More businesses closing than opening, a complete reversal from a couple of years ago. We also lost the extension service this year.

Looking at the Median Home Value in other places, and mine is at least 2.5 times higher than were I live, I am ready to pull up stakes, cashing in my chips, and go to Lukenbach with Waylon, Willie and the boys.
The wife and grandkids prevent me from doing so.

I live in a depressed area, like most of the more remote High Plains areas. Lots of old folks, few young ones. The old ones die and the young ones move away, as they almost have to. We are hyper-rural, which means we are obsolete, irrelevant, and getting moreso every year. We lose about 10% of the population every census period. But the quality of life here is very good. Funny thingβ lots of native 30 and 40-somethings move BACK to the area and make out as best they can because they WANT to be here.

The wife and grandkids prevent me from doing so. Lukenbach is VERY close to Austin. They are building an industrial park next door and a subdivision across the road. The new subdivision is going to average about $375k but acreage is high.

after pushing buttons all over the keyboard, this the best I could do. Not able to use that online ZipCode site. Am 14020 www.google.com/maps/place/30+Oak+St,+Batavia,+NY+14020/@43.0020477,-78.1919689,3a,75y,85.09h,90t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1sQ7wDS4BB6J_ko5ITtiWQtQ!2e0!6shttps:%2F%2Fstreetviewpixels-pa.googleapis.com%2Fv1%2Fthumbnail%3Fpanoid%3DQ7wDS4BB6J_ko5ITtiWQtQ%26cb_client%3Dsearch.gws-prod.gps%26w%3D86%26h%3D86%26yaw%3D85.08755%26pitch%3D0%26thumbfov%3D100!7i16384!8i8192!4m5!3m4!1s0x89d3ee721e995f59:0x36e2129424b6a0d5!8m2!3d43.0020623!4d-78.1917325

Yeah Ron, I meant it in the flavor of the song, not so much the geographical Lukenbach.

Pretty interesting statistics, especially compared to places near by, and other places that I've recently lived. I've always wondered what area my zip code covers because we have quite a few in my "small town." www.unitedstateszipcodes.org/31757/

Had to go into town for errands, MD, Pharmacy, Bank, feed store.
The twp high points was having a lunch burrito at Super Save Market-- Beef Brisket and cheese with lots of brisket! A deal for $6.00. The other high note was my Prostate Specialist telling me the PSA results were normal. 2.33 out of 4.

Nothing like free work!!
My wall patches matched up perfect. Not an easy task considering there are so many variables when doing texture. The paint is about 8 years old and the owner only wanted to paint the patched spots. I told him I could get the color matched with no problem, but the sheen would be a different story. Well, as expected, the color matched, the sheen makes it "shine" like crazy. I can't leave a job with it looking like an amateur did it, so I'm painting the whole wall for them for no charge. The problem is, I had patches on 1/3 of the walls in this house.
So if anyone needs 1/3 of their house painted, punch holes in your walls, hire ME to fix them, but don't listen to my advice in my estimate. I'll still make it right for you.

Sounds like you are the kind of contractor people want to hire. You not only stand by your work, but you go the extra mile. I've only patched walls a couple times, and it was so my landlord didnt have to charge me for it. The very first time was a 12 inch square patch because a navy buddy put his arm through the wall one night when we were at the place drinking. (As we often did) He bought the drywall, we got a deal on a scrap piece, and the supplies. I didnt paint it because I knew they would have to paint when we moved out anyhow. About 6 months after the repair my landlord was in my apartment for something, I dont remember what. She asked me why I painted a patch of the wall and not the whole thing. I related that that was the hole I'd patched and what she saw as paint was simply the spackling compound Id used to texture it. She offered to pay me to patch holes in other units. Sadly, I was young and dumb, and besides we got transferred too soon after so I never got the chance at the extra cash.

I didn't have anything else planned for the afternoon because my next job was 40 miles away. So I told them I'd use the paint that I had, and paint until it was gone. If they give my name to just 1 person because I "went the extra mile, and I get a job off of that, it's an investment in myself. It's also through one of the real estate companies that I hooked up with, so its a win all around.
Happy customer, happy Josh, happy real estate company (again).
