Heading out in a little bit. Going to cram two days of jobs into one. We're supposed to get hit with this storm early tomorrow mostly ice to start out. Not calling for a lot of snow but high wind and freezing temps. Just don't want to be out in it if I don't have to be. We have 40 mph winds and 4 degrees coming in tonight and we're in Texas! 🤯 That's crazy for Texas. Try to keep warm and have everything nailed down. I just got the generator out and fired up to make sure it's ready. Got all the extension cords ready. They say we could get wind gusts over 50 so I'm as prepared as I can be.

I fired up the back-up fireplace and tested it. The living room went from 65 to 83 in 45 minutes. All of the pipes are double wrapped and we are ready.

Drove in to work today. Got a lot done. I enjoy driving my little Tacoma when we get some snow. Maybe about a quarter of normal volume on the interstate this morning. We will have about half the office out tomorrow. Probably not doing much work, but a lot of eating and jaw-jacking.

I saw probably 400 snowflakes today and I didn't even go to a mall! 😁

Wife and I put tar paper around the old house which is 4 ft off the ground, stakes hammered in the ground then nailed to btm of house, trying to stop North wind , filling up water bottles, bathtub, for water to flush toilets. Canceled Christmas with kids, they have to cross bridges which will be frozen. We will celebrate later. Good preparation. I used to do similar, years ago when livingi n rural Virginia. I would bag, in quality Contractor Bags, the broad leaves which fell from the oak and broadleaf trees in the Fall of the year. Then stack the up against the North wall of the house to break the wind. Come Spring, easy removal and into the compost pile.

Everybody stay as safe and warm as possible! I was talking to on e old boy here this afternoon at our gas station who talked about when it was -55 degrees Fahrenheit here (that is MINUS) BEFORE the wind chill factor. That is cold.

That qualifies, yeah. Snowing here, now, as just mentioned elsethread.

Kinda crazy since geographically we are not that far apart, you are a days drive away and we are at 57 degrees at sundown.

56% humidity and -9 with a bit of wind makes the WC -33°. My 45Y walk to the mailbox was all I wanted of that! Even Eli was anxious to get back inside. 6% humidity inside. Couple more frosty days and then temp will rise for a few days with mid 40s by middle of next week. We have had intense cold for quite a spell now and I hope it’s gonna break soon. WCs of -55 get tedious after a while. Looks like we may be in for a real winter this go-round.

The San Luis Valley of southern Colorado and northern New Mexico is one of the coldest places in the USA.

The 45-yard walk reminds me of the old joke about outhouses. You always put them 100 yards from the house, which in winter is about a hundred yards too far, but in summer it's a hundred yards too close, so it's kind of a compromise.

Rain has turned into snow, and the wind has picked up a bit. The wind chill is gonna be pretty brutal here.

Our cold weather is moving in today. By 9am the wind chill is going to be below freezing and it's only going to get colder as the day goes on. Single digit, and teen, wind chills until Sunday or Monday. It's pretty unheard of this far south, especially for days at a time. With all the rain we've had this week, it's going to be pretty miserable. I'll take it though, it beats the July swamp air.
I can put extra clothes on to go to town. I can only take so many off before it becomes a problem, a felony, and a life long title.

Guess I'm going to be running a taxi service for the next few days. My son's diesel BMW won't start in this cold. Told him not to buy a damned deisel, but would he listen? Hell no.
I'll be taking him to and from work on midnight shift for at least the next 2 days, maybe 3. At least he works just a couple blocks from my house - but lives about 15 minutes away.

They do not always have them installed. They were an option. He could place an electric heating pad on the Head overnight. I know people who have place a can of sternon under the oil pan to warm an old Mercedes Benz diesel. Please do not use ether starting fluid. This engine was not built by Cummins or Caterpillar. Although, I used to ignite BMW Marine Diesels with Lighter Fluid. Then there is fuel gelling. He might want to add Diesel Rescue Red Label if he did not already add the white label anti-gell.

"17, feels like 8" in town. So out here in the sticks I'm sure it's more like "12, feels like 2."
I just got recruited to do some last minute shopping. 1. I hate going to town. 2. I hate large crowds. But, it's Christmas, and it's for the kids. Suck it up buttercup.
Checklist:
1. Tobacco 2. Pipes 3. .45 4. Xanax 🤣
1 & 2 are for tranquility. 3 is for safety because people are crazy. 4 is to make it through the day if 1&2 don't work.
Merry Christmas all!
