Sheer nostalgia. There's not one pipe-smoking Dane, who at one time or another hasn't smoked Mac Baren's Mixture. I got a tin of Mac Baren's 'Golden Blend' for Christmas in 1964; I wonder if they perhaps renamed it 'Golden Extra' at a later date. The tin looks exactly the same, except for the name of course. That '221B...' tobacco looks highly interesting. Does it say "...blended for FDB Cigar..."..? I just can't make it out. Yes, that is what is written. Thanks very much for your reply. The tobacco factory was in business 1901 to 1981 and it's the first time I've ever seen one of their pipe tobaccos. If I was given to envy, I'd... The Danish artist Aage Sikker-Hansen made this great poster, "The Tobacco Girl", for the company in 1945. It says "Tobacco for the connoissseur smoker".

This Bari Squash I just won for $29 shipped. I like the form and the briar. $29 for a Bari is a steal, pure and simple, and yours is a beauty. I have several Baris, each an excellent smoker.

Did you notice the hole in the stem in the second picture? Not a bad looking pipe for a 5 spot.

Did you notice the hole in the stem in the second picture? Not a bad looking pipe for a 5 spot. I didn't actually. I thought that was just a trick of the light. Hopefully I can pick up a replacement stem easily enough if needs be. For $5 I'll give it a try. I'll try to restore it as best I can and if it's not great I'll float it back on ebay.

Just won a bid for a DM EP pipe. No idea what that stands for, but I like the look of it. Needs a bit of a polish but hopefully that's all... A nice-looking little pipe. The 'EP' in the diamond on the band, stands for 'ElectroPlated'. I have no idea what 'DM' stands for.

High shipping cost and bank transfer fees be damned! I finally ordered from Tom Darasz at Motzek. I've got three of their Oriental blends on the way and can't wait to finally try them. Little Snake, Highland Balls and Kieler Freu(n)de Alte Hasen. 500 grams of German goodness.

Lovely pipes. What are your thoughts on the Mellow Virginia, haebar...I didn't care for it much myself (that's one of the few tobaccos that most supermarkets would stock). That said, I was still new to the game when I tried it. I must revisit it.

My mouth is still a little taxed from all the smoking I did at the pipe club meeting Wednesday night. I will try it tonight or tomorrow and let you know what I think about it.

You're most welcome. Actually, William Wallace had his tartan tattooed on his scrotum, but Mel Gibson wasn't into historical correctness that much, so... It's not true. I just made it up.
