What is your favorite tinned fish? I used to turn up my nose at sardines when I was a kid but I tried some smoked Herring today and it was great. Just looking for some suggestions

To be honest, I like the tinned smoked oysters a lot. I settle for clams when I dont want to spend the extra pennies on the oysters (or they dont have them) Clams are almost as good. As for true fish, I do like the Kippered snacks and smoked herring fillets. I'm not a fan of sardines either, though its not a logical issue since I cant even remember what they taste like.

Smoked trout.
I’ve mentioned this before, but in the Mediterranean countries that have ready access to seafood tinned fish are considered a preferred delicacy. That surprised me.

Smoked herrings in a tin have been with me backpacking, sailing, traveling. They make a great sandwich plain out of the can.
Smoked salmon and trout are great even pain old Yellow Fin Tuna.

I've been a fan of Kippers for years, but lately I've been eating tins of anchovies packed in olive oil. I wish I could find white anchovies around here, but the pickings are slim here in rural MS. Guess I'll have to go online.

Good quality tinned sardines in mustard are a great snack. Ones in oil make good ingredients for other dishes.

Enjoyed sardines as a kid. Don't go near them now, just too much salt.

I like them all.
I wasn't the most popular kid. I loved sardines. Mommy packed a tin of sardines and some Saltines in my lunchbox one day in second grade. The other kids gave me an even wider berth after that.

Sardines, except those in tomato sauce, smoked herring, kippers, tuna are all in my pantry. Makes a great lunch with crackers. Oh, and pickled herring in jars, too.

All this talk inspired my simple lunch of shredded lettuce, mustard dressing, and a tin of anchovies. Now where the heck did I put my water glass?!

Kippers, sardines, smoked oysters. One of my favorite sandwiches, rye bread, mustard, thin onion slice and sardines. Taught to me by an old Swedish seaman when I was a kid.

That pretty much mirrors where I am at! I bought some kippered herring that was an off brand… it tasted like tin metal… pretty gross. Stick with trusted brands.

King Oscar Mediterranean sardines and many of their others like lemon and olive oil mackerel. Pampa herring in paprika tomato sauce. I've got several others I like but those are my favorites. Also give Polar smoked sardines in the red round can in olive oil if you're looking for a great smoked sardine. I don't go for the smoked too often but had a can last night with mozzarella and deli pepperoni.

King Oscar make all top quality products. I keep their mackerel, sardines, and anchovies stocked of all sorts. Another fish ready to eat, not tinned, is smoked ready to eat salmon of various sorts in the cold section of your seafood grocery. I like the honey smoked salmon fillets that come in various sizes and I always keep an eye on when they reduce the price. We just got one of their $11, 8 oz. honey smoked salmon fillets at Kroger when it was reduced down to $5.90, and it was still perfectly good for another entire month. Not anywhere near old or the best by date. These fillets are usually packaged in 2-4 oz. sizes. If you can find it I love the Alaskan native smoked salmon jerky but it's basically $8-9 for four strips of it shrink wrapped on a cardboard backing.

I went to our local Albertsons and the king Oscar herring fillets are $3.49 for a small two ounce tin. As someone on here mentioned they bought through Amazon I checked the price, I think it was $27 and change for 12 -3.5oz tins. Pretty much a no brainer to buy from Amazon.

I like pretty much all kinds, especially herring and salmon. (Tuna's less of a favorite; I don't dislike it, just find it a little bland.) Aldi sometimes carries tins of herring in various sauces (curry pineapple, mango pepper, tomato)--what a treat.
Now, prepared fresh and not canned, you can't beat catfish and bluegill, in my opinion. I've never seen them tinned and don't know if you could. --But I digress.

For me Bar Harbor has the best herrings in a tin.
THe large pickled in the jar are also vey tasty as is Bismarck Herring in sour cream sauce. That Otto knew his fish.
