Word is a NMSP helicopter spotted him. Ground crew moving in that direction. I hope they make contact before nightfall. Nerve racking!

What’s he gonna owe the state for the rescue?

What’s he gonna owe the state for the rescue? Who knows? I just heard the the rescue party found him and they are walking out in the dark. Raining hard up there, could turn to snow.

Sounds like he's not entirely out of the woods, so to speak, but I'm glad they found him.

With the technology available, it makes no sense to go without a backup plan...It was hammered home to me when the Colorado hiker had to amputate his arm from a boulder. www.findmespot.com/en-us/

Good news. I'm sure that he'll be okay now and will be taken for a medical check-up.

Good news. I'm sure that he'll be okay now and will be taken for a medical check-up. As far as I know, he was dropped off at the trail head where he parked his truck. At least that was the plan I heard. I do not know if they came out last night. It was raining hard and they had about six miles to go, all bushwacking, no trails or roads. I hope to hear from him this morning.

Peaceful evening as posted in the whats in the glass thread. One of those nights with the right amount of bourbon, cigar, and solitude. The accumulation of being pulled in every direction but leading to this exact place. The realization that enjoying where I am is consequence of where I have been. I try my best to live in the moment and in an inept attempt at "Walden" like observation what is life and what is not. The cool of the night being made more aware on my skin by the hours of summer in the garden. The drink in the glass warming from within pressing also against the coolness. The slight feeling of heat and smell of burnt beard from relighting a cigar past its end. Even as smoking it considering the cob on the table and what tobacco for it I have within reach. The cats activities I have not watched in a while, their nighttime antics far different from their naps in the sunshine. Pausing only for a passing pet and checking of the food bowl. I know the answer before even asking how long has it been since I sat out and noticed such things, to long. I am forever in awe in my blessings in life. But nights like tonight I bridge the gap from knowing I am blessed to being grateful for my blessings. The negative connotation of the phrase know your place lifts away with the smoke, my place is here. For as long as the good Lord allows it.

It's 75° here with a clear, sunny sky just beautiful. I think that I'll sit inside and be uncomfortable with a suspected kidney stone that won't pass. lol This has been bothering me for some four days along with the associated bouts of back pain. I spoke with one of the nurses at the VA clinic and was advised to go to the ER for a scan and possible treatment. Looking forward to the weekend!

Hope your ordeal passes soon. No pun intended. ‘Taint funny. Thanks! I'm no stranger to these things and ended up having to have a kidney stone surgically removed once. The problem that I have is downplaying the symptoms so as not to be a hypochondriac and then realize that it's become serious. Everything will be fine as long as I can smoke my pipe in the morning.

Sorry to read that, Russ. Kidney Stones are among life's least moments except for that glorious occasion when it passes.

If the LORD sends you on a stony path, he will provide you with the appropriate sandals, Russ.
Trying to add a bit of levity in a tough situation… kidney stones are no joke though, I hope that they can pass with a minimal amount of pain.
I will be praying for that to be the case.

Going to the SAF conference this weekend in PHX while the wife is at a ladies retreat in the forest with my daughters. SAF conference= second amendment foundation headed up by Alan Gottlieb, a great guy that has an admirable list of accomplishments. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_Amendment_Foundation#:~:text=Founded%20in%201974%20by%20Alan,central%20role%20in%20sponsoring%20lawsuits. Amazing lineup of speakers, I am looking forward to seeing Massad Ayoob, and Tom Gresham, and people that really have skin in the game.

I'm trying to mentally block out the noise from the neighbors catty-corner from me. They moved in fairly recently, I think. I didn't see any moves take place, but they're definitely not the same family that lived there when I moved in, so I don't think this is just behavior I hadn't experienced before because I haven't lived here that long.
Anyway, they've got some backyard karaoke going, multicolored lights and all. It'll be interesting to see how the neighborhood responds to it.

Surely there is something in your liquor cabinet that can help with this.🤣

I've been in the hunt for another English pipe and have a bid on a '70s metal logo BBB. It's a bent shape with a smooth, deep reddish brown finish. What's interesting about this pipe is that it's not a bent billiard, but a bent pot with a deep, wide bowl. The auction closes tomorrow night at this time and, if I get outbid, I won't chase after it. We'll see.

Regardless of political persuasion, the right of self defense is gravely important regardless of where you are in the political realm, and it was stressed today by many of the speakers, notably Tom Gresham of guntalk radio from Louisiana, John Correia founder and president of Active Self Protection (huge YouTube following), Nicki Stallard tomorrow. SAF is worthwhile to support if you enjoy the ability to own guns, and want to support your ability and that of your offspring. Alan Gottlieb started defending when it really wasn’t on anyone’s radar 50 years ago.

I had a nice BBB that smoked great, really old briar but one side of the bowl started thinning as the heat was seeking another exit, never a full burnout but noticeable. I think that it sat too long and was some really dry briar with a soft spot. An anomaly for sure, tons of BBB estates out there that perform like a champ!
