I got fired today. Apparently the decision makers are satisfied enough with my work with native communities on the project to bring in political hacks to conclude things. I want to be much angrier about this but it seems to happen every time. Next time I'm going to create a small crisis every six months so that people think it's harder than it looks. I do appreciate that they let me know who they're bringing in. It just goes to show that we aren't ready to be a rich nation. sigh.

20 degrees before considering the 10 MPH wind. Windchill of +9 degrees (F) and getting cooler.
Land Cruiser had the side lights left on so battery is too low to crank in this cold. The Diesel truck needs about four or five hours of block heater. So, it appears I will not be going to the post office or the store this evening.
Tomorrow is another day.

Firing those who achieve success is the way many US corporations operate, as well. Been there. Surely there is a better opportunity for you around the next corner!

Well my shooting stats are in for 2022. According to my database, in 2022, I fired 3356 rounds of ammo and reloaded just 1792 rounds. No bad considering the shortages and prices these days, I guess. My best year was 2017 when I fired 5833 rounds and reloaded 4198 - allthough in 2019 I reloaded 5445 rounds. That’s a lot of pew-pew. I admire your record keeping system. I don’t keep records of exact number of rounds fired, but do have pages made up for reloading/chrono/group data, plus computer printouts of individual load performance. Yours mostly split between 45 and 22?

It doesn't matter who the elected officials are in Houston. The city was founded by real estate developers and it is still run by real estate developers. It was just right at 750k people. Not so much at 2.8 million. The worst part is the surrounding countryside being all developed. I think that once a city exceeds a population of a couple of million or so, it should be split off from the state. Have it's government separate from the state. That way they woldn't have undue influence over the rest of the state. Like the District of Columbia - have a Dictrict of Chicago, New York, Los Angles ..... Separate electorial votes and all. Sounds like a great plan. How do we implement it?

It's happened to me more than once. In public service it's probably who you know and the stability of their power. I hope that you find another job soon.

I do know that in 1968 I fired about 12k rounds of 45 auto, and in 83 I fired around 6k rounds of 38 wadcutters and about the same in 22lr. Other years much less and highly variable. If I had to keep my tobacco on a spreadsheet, I would give up the pipe.

Yours mostly split between 45 and 22? My record keeping started when I started reloading, then I started logging shots fired and which gun, and then competition scores - until I wrote a Microsoft Access database and transferred all the info to it. Now I know every shot fired out of each gun. ammo inventory, reloading component inventory, target photos, what guns need cleaned, how many rounds since last cleaned, modifications or repairs to guns, reloading recipes ....... I've forgotten much of what I knew about writting Microsoft Access databases, so this one has a few problems, but it works for me. I've mainly been shooting 9mm, 45ACP and sometimes 22lr but usually only in pistol league along with either 45 or 9mm. I shoot a few .223 and .308 too. And now and then few 40 cal and 38 special.

It's simpler for me. All of my guns need cleaning, and I haven't fired enough ammo in any of them for them to need any springs, etc. The only records I keep is reloading data, and it's mostly straight out of the book. I do have a lot of upgrades that need installed, but I don't have that much interest since I'm not shooting anything for the foreseeable future. If I start shooting and reloading again it will be an avalanche.

Country folks don’t care about city folks, either. People’s lack of willingness to walk a mile in the other person’s shoes isn’t a problem voting rules can solve. And however underrepresented rural folks may feel, the reality is that they aren’t. There just aren’t enough of them anymore to win. I don’t like anybody feeling left out or left behind. I just don’t see any way to fix that, and going back to some people’s votes literally counting more than others’ isn’t something I’d favor. If rural voters agreed to give the city-states 2 senators, just like the other states, city voters would probably agree to the proposal. But we both know that would never happen.

The original Constitution limited voting to property owners. That seems fair to me. 😉

Yep, you have proptery you have a vote, no skin in the game folks decide on 💩 they don’t have. In my area rural we are represented decently, but as land becomes scarce it looks like developers will be the favored ones. Last year I was offered an obscene amount for my land. Don’t need the headache gonna let my 3 children come into that.

Homo sapiens, being an imperfect beast, cannot devise a perfect system of government. All are failures at various levels. Among the worst are communism, socialism, and “democracy.” If this is POLITICS, as opposed to HISTORY, I apologize and will go back to complaining about the weather.

I now want a Tesla. Just saw where a California guy tried to kill himself and his family by driving off a 300 foot cliff on the Pacific Coast Highway. The family, wife and 2 kids had only minor injuries.

Each year at the Electric Vehicle show in Taos he gives a report on his experience as a Tesla driver. He has taken many long road trips. As a Tesla owner he knows the location of all the semi-secret charging stations spread across the land. There are many. Being a Tesla owner is something like being in a secret society. Like the Masons.

Korea has fined Tesla because the range is reduced by more than half in cold weather.
