I know i haven't been around much, so I'll explain a bit.
I've been very busy helping my wife start a non-profit in memory of her son, who passed in '09. Lots of paperwork planning etc. But we are up and running.
Then 2 weeks ago, I threw my back out doing some light yardwork. It didn't really get better, and late this week it started to get worse. I was scheduled to see an ortho Tuesday, but yesterday the pain became more that I was able to deal with and my wife took me to the ER.
There, I had a CAT scan with contrast so the doc could find out if my estimation of another ruptured disc was correct.
He came to give me the results and I was incorrect. Turns out I have a compression fracture of T9 (which is a first for me), and unfortunately that was the good news.
Turns out I have an uninvited guest, and will be having more imaging etc to find out type, exact location and severity. Also, hard back brace for at least a month to find out if the fracture will start healing itself or if I'll need a procedure to correct that as well.
So I'll be slowed down for a while, and have realized that the Patch is a much needed stress reducer for me. So I'll be around more often...
Pete

Wow, that's a lot to take in one blow, Pete. How are you holding up?

Wow, that's a lot to take in one blow, Pete. How are you holding up? Actually I'm doing fine so far. I'm doing all I can for the back, and the pain is under control now. I actually slept for a bit over 6 hours last night, and that helped.
As far as the other goes, I don't know enough to know how freaked out I should be, so I'm not so far ;-)

That's the way to do it, for sure. Stay in the present. Worry about what might be when and if it actually happens.
Sleep is definitely our friend. Glad you were able to get that much of it. Are you able to sleep in your bed, or are you on the floor?

Thanks urb

All of our best to you, Pete. I have a spinal condition and am no stranger to the pain. Just take it all one day at a time and here's to your recovery. Keep us posted.

One thing anybody who's had back trouble knows is you go with whatever works. Bed, couch, floor, coffee table, whatever.

I popped a bunch 30 years ago, which sucked, but have to admit the fracture is much more painful. It's just a matter of time before the back is better. Thanks

Pete, have they given you any kind of schedule? When the various tests will happen. How long it takes to get results. Do you know what to expect?

Pete, have they given you any kind of schedule? When the various tests will happen. How long it takes to get results. Do you know what to expect? i have call my PCP tomorrow to schedule a specialized MRI w/contrast, either with endocrinologist or oncologist. Plus I have to schedule an appointment with the neurosurgeon in 4-5 weeks to find out if the fracture is healing on its own or if there will need to be a procedure to correct that. So I should have a better idea on time-frames once that is done. It appears we might have caught it relatively early, but the MRI should give better information on that.

Great news. (To have you back)
The galactic empire made a mid-step when they instituted the secret Dark Tater Project, which was meant to sideline you. They meant it for bad, but it is good for you to be back with the confederates.

Yikes buddy, that's a blow, I'm sure. However, hopefully the fracture will heal well and the process of scanning because of it has caught the uninvited guest before it's had a chance to take off its shoes and make itself comfy.
