Quiet day on the Patch. Everybody must be watching the foosball. Tried to get some things done today before the weather hits tonight.

The Arizona Pipe Club had another great meeting today... (as they always are ). One of our pipe club members has a very respectable cellar, but he recently secured his dream home in the mountains to the east of us, and as the case often is, he decided to do some housekeeping. he decided to give away the many blends that he just does not smoke, his tastes have been refined, he knows what he likes, but he knows what are simply going to be cellar dwellers. What he did, was to gift them blends to the pipe club members, and there really was something for everyone. We still had a box left over that will travel to our brothers on the west side that are not ones that meet at our club, but brothers, nonetheless. As you can see, the boxes are still being unpacked.A new in the box humidor, I gifted to a person, Nick that drew high card...my wife picked it up at a thrift shop for very few shekels. None of this could take place as a solitary pipe smoker, if you can find a club in your area, check it out, if you do not know of one, private message me, I might be able to help out. If there are none near you, we started out as two people meeting up for a smoke....Wow! Very Generous. I’ve seen Cliff’s wall of tobacco via Zoom. It’s a very impressive sight. Wishing them the best in their new home (but I don’t know how anyone could leave Scottsdale for winter).

He grew up in Colorado, quite an accomplished hunter that has endured many challenges by weather in his pursuits, he is like another Salmon in our group, returning to the river of his youth.

Snow let up for a while but it's been coming down heavy for the past hour or so. Supposed to continue through sometime tomorrow. As long as it stays snow, it's fine with me. We usually get ice, and I hate ice.

My Mother-in-law is having hip replacement surgery in the morning. So, my wife headed over to metro Detroit this evening and had the drive from hell to get to Sterling Heights. Although arctic cold, the roads were fine. However, I-696 turned into a parking lot just east of Orchard Lake Rd. in Farmington Hills. After she finally got to where they were using an on ramp to get traffic off I-696, she took surface streets the rest of the way and that took forever with lights. The normal 2 hour drive took 3 1/2 hours.

Situations like that are frustrating, John. Glad they got there safe and Godspeed on your mother-in-law's recovery. Detroit is having a pretty good game so far...I cannot stand the LA Rams.

Up and getting ready for a half day at work I today. Leaving early to have an esophageal manometry procedure. Not looking forward to that. Oh well. Getting used to being probed, poked and tested.

Hang onto your wallets!
I listened to an investigative reporter that covers consumer issues, he said that we can expect auto and home insurance to rise 30 to 50 percent. With all of the technology, not to mention inflation on car parts the cost of car repairs has skyrocketed. On a lot of new cars, even the windshields replacements have technology built in, need calibration, etc….
The windshield carny’s always give me a laugh. They approach you at a gas station, if they see a chip in the windshield they tell me that I can get my windshield replaced for free. Twice, I told them let’s get her done! They ask for my insurance info, and I tell them “you said it was free”…. “See you later”.

I had that done last year. Doctor opened my esophagus with a 55 French, whatever that is. It wasn't bad, but I had a hard time getting over the anesthesia.

The cost of everything is triple what it was 4 years ago. The cost to rebuild this is 3 times the market value.

Finally got to put Christmas decor away... The wife keeps it up until the sons birthday is past on the 8th, mine on the 9th. Since I have been a little off the last couple of days so I was delayed to the wife’s dismay. Happy Birthday to us!! I'm a 9th baby too. Hey Olblue, Sorry I missed this. Happy Belated Birthday!

Currently 13 degrees here. We've got about 3-4" of snow on the ground. At least the wind has finally laid down, after 2-3 days of howling. Other than going to the mailbox, I shall remain in of doors.

I decided yesterday that today I would bake some bread. Got my starter mix and let it sit overnight and put it all together this morning to see if I could get a rise out of it. Two hours later and nothing. Give it a fold and tuck and let it sit another 45 minutes. Again nothing!! The dough was hard and not pliable at all. Almost like biscuit dough. So I was about to chuck it in the bin and go sit and sulk, but, decided to try something else with it.
My wife would make something called a Frazzele. It's Italian from her grandmother. So I rolled some out on the cutting board and gave it a good amount of black pepper,I like spicy things, and rolled it up into logs and cut it into 1" pieces. They went on some parchment paper and into the oven for 20 minutes and flipped then back in for another 10 minutes. And what was destined to the bin now is a somewhat tasty snack sized bread slice. Crunchy on the outside and soft in the center. The thicker ones seem to have this texture better but they all taste good! So, salvaged another disaster in the kitchen.
Now if I could only figure out how to get the bread to rise???
