Mother-in-law's hip replacement surgery went fine. Surgeon ended up having to do a bit more than he initially expected from the images but it all turned out well. They’ve had her up and walking this evening and she may go home tomorrow. It's astonishing how far that surgery has come. That used to be one you spent ages in the hospital recovering from. You're right, John. Having had both hips totally replaced, I noticed a big difference in the results between the first, my right hip done four years ago, and my left side that was replaced last Spring.

Decided to wait until the afternoon warmed up to 15° before going outside. I took the new snow shovel out for its trial run, cleaned off the front porch, the short walk to the driveway, and spread out some ice melter. Took a whole twenty minutes but, even with the ergonomic snow shovel handle, my back hurts. After a break, I'll clean Lily's cat box and then take a nap in my recliner. Enough for one day.

Take care of that back, Russ.
Stay warm and dry, Bob.
These are the orders for the day.

Old Irish saying: “It doesn’t matter how cold and wet you are as long as you stay warm and dry.”

Still a solid coating of ice all over the Arklatex. Very little traffic. Not going out today. 29° is the high today, going down to 13 tonight. It's made everything more slippery by the recent coating of frozen tears from the Cowboy fans.

15 degrees here. They were predicting a high of 20, but if it's 15 right now, I don't think we got there. The sun's out bright, though, so some bits of concrete that have been in it all day are starting to show through the snow. Headed down to 8 tonight.

Funny watching Buddy trying to get water out of his frozen bowl outside, he doesn’t like the cold, does his business lickey split and then back in the house,. I don't blame him. It's unnatural for it to freeze in south Louisiana. Lacy loves it. She says it reminds her of home in Yorkshire. I reminded her that she was born in Kerrville, but she wasn't having it.

Wow. 8°. Pretty unusual there is it not? Less unusual than you might think. Same kind of cold snap is what froze my pipes last winter. It's not that uncommon for us to see single digits. We just don't stay there as long as places farther north.

Looks like they've updated us to 6 for tonight's low. I'm giving some thought to going out for a smoke sometime, just to say I was dumb enough to do it.

17 this morning warming up to 28 for sundown. The Moore Maker knife made it here after two weeks of meandering through the postal system. The Gooloo jump starter appears to be making the same insane routing it made to the post office down the street only to be shipped to gosh knows where before making it back to the local post office down the street. **Inappropriate Content Removed**

Our local postal workers are great. The main postal truck couldn't make it to the post office today, but the Amazon truck did, so they delivered the Amazon. I think the huge majority of the workers are great. I interviewed for a job in the downtown Houston post office that I was looking forward to working with the people I met, but I got a much better offer.

It looks like I am dealing with highs around Vegas being in the high 50’s the next few days…. Meanwhile in PHX it is mid 70’s for highs.
Wish I was local.
