I also received a prize addition to my Ehrlich custom meerschaum collection, a bulldog from about 1970, unsmoked. It’s 7 1/2 inches long for perspective. I am very happy.

A packet of kentucky club. I'm looking forward to trying it as I've only ever had the match and really enjoyed it.

I had been thinking for some time that I was ready to order more Gawith Hoggarth Rum Twist. Last week. Smokingpipes had an offer of free can with purchase. I got it in the mail today. I doubt I’ll use the can, but it’s fun to have and it pushed me to order the twist. Interesting, new packaging again from GH. I can just picture the dog filling that box. 😁

Yeah it is a shame that they got away from how they used to do it… a beehive with a nail at each end. (500 gram rope of Brown Bogie) imgur.com/a/7B3KLiW

Annual pipe cleaner order arrived this morning. About 80 packs total of BJ Long standard, bristle, and fluffy cleaners. A clean pipe is a good tasting pipe. 😀

Also in the mail today was a new pipe: Dr. Grabow Royalton Pear. I really like the Royalton line for my beater pipes which I can smoke anywhere without concern: in the muddy horse corral, out in the field on the tractor, walking through my woods and swamp, when it’s 0f out and I’m going to have to leave a pipe in the car for a couple hours, etc… Yeah, most people reach for a cob for a beater, but I’m just not much of a cob guy. I love briar. The thing that I like about the Royalton line is they have a real stem made out of acrylic with a normal airway after the filter unlike their usual hollow black nylon piece of crap. So, a briar that smokes good with an acrylic stem with a metal tenon. This makes the third modern production Dr Grabow Royalton in my collection.

Looks like a nice one, John. Thanks! Surprisingly hard to find the right one too. Most sellers let you specify series, smooth or rusticated, and straight or bent. Then you get a random shape. I’ve been watching for a straight Pear in the Royalton line for quite a while.

My Allerair air purifier has a circular intake underneath that you nest the prefilter up into the bottom it had reached the end of service. I searched all over the net for replacements, anywhere from $45-$90....I was exactly sure what the filter media was called, but found a 25'roll from Home Depot for $52.00 with free shipping. I cannot believe how expensive it is for filter supply houses to cut the material to size! www.homedepot.com/p/AC-Safe-Economy-Plus-Air-Conditioner-Filter-25-ft-Roll-AC-302-25-Roll/206671528But then again, the Mazda dealership wanted to change my engine air filter and cabin air filter for a cool $75. When I tod them I would take care of it myself and went to change them, the same leaf particles on the engine filter that they took a picture of at the dealership was still there. That tells me when we get past the 100k full service plan, extended warranty they will never see the car again! We bought the car with 19k on it with a transferrable warranty, the Dodge salesman tried a hard sell on offering me a plan for 6K, on our first service we found out it had a transferrable warranty. My uncle that was very wealthy, gave me some sage advice..."everything is geared to separate you from your money" Ripoffs and scams abound! Thinking about going into the filter replacement business.

An excellent reminder. I find their more recent tins to be slightly better than folded paper bags. I have much more understanding and patience with them than I would with one of the two “Big Pipe Tobacco” companies. The size of their business, what they need to go through to stay in business and the rather low profit margin in pipe tobacco makes me glad that they are still open.

Thanks Urb, good to hear positive things. I've had my eyes on it for a while. I seem to be partial to Rattray's blends. I've yet to have one go wrong for me. Old Gowrie and Marlin Flake are my favorites, but everything I've tried has been good. I know Gypo is a big fan of Hal o' the Wynd and Silver is a Brown Clunee man. Given your preference for milder blends, I'd say Hal o' the Wynd probably isn't in your wheelhouse, though. Brown Clunee is quite mild, to me.

HOTW was a fine blend for me quite a while ago...Marlin Flake as well.

I bought one 100gm can to try. I’ve sampled it a few times every couple months, but it hasn’t grabbed me enough to buy more. Based on the blend ingredients, I should like it, but it’s not grabbing me, 🤷♂️ The same thing happened with Professinal Mixture.

If you end up liking Jocks Mixture which is just Va and just enough Latakia for smokiness, then I suggest giving C&D Yale Mixture a try, too. It’s a similar blend of just Va and some Lat. Much easier to find as it is both a C&D bulk and tinned blend. I cellar both Jocks and Yale.
