Smoking C&D Autumn Evening while enjoying a cooler afternoon in STX. Unfortunately the temps are expected to jump back up to mid 80s/low 90s by the end of the week.

This pipe tends to get a bit plugged once I'm past the halfway point. I've used my shank reamer on it and it doesn't find any material to bite, so I'm not sure what the issue is. Angle that the airway enters the bowl, maybe? Sometimes a small bit of tobacco can get lodged in the airway right where it meets the bowl. What I do is to take a pipe cleaner and push it all of the way into the bowl to clear the airway. Might work for you. Possible, but it seems to happen consistently with this pipe. Still early days of break-in, though. We'll see.

What about running a pipe cleaner through the shank while you’re smoking, does that clear it? Haven't tried it. My pipe tool is handier where I smoke, so I use the pick to loosen up what's in the bowl. It usually helps.

Haven't tried it. My pipe tool is handier where I smoke, so I use the pick to loosen up what's in the bowl. It usually helps. What I meant was to insert the pipe cleaner in through the bit and into the bowl while you're smoking the pipe. Same. What I meant was that pipes with poor airway drilling tend to get moisture build up, and many of us run pipe cleaners through the pipe while we’re still smoking to clear that airway and keep it dry. Take a puff, stick a pipe cleaner in and twist it around, pull it out and keep smoking. See if it clears up.

I haven't tried that because my pipe cleaners are not handy to where I smoke. My pipe tool is handy, since I use it to tamp. Ergo, what I have tried, rather than running an unhandy cleaner through the airway, is loosening what's in the bowl to make a little space where the airway enters the bowl.
As for moisture, I'm getting none of the usual signs of moisture. No gurgling or popping noises. No moisture drawn into my mouth.

A Xmas blend before T'giving?? J'accuse! The only thing Christmasy about the blend is the marketing. Finishing that bowl of Cringle Flake that I started before dinner. Not a hint of candy cane, gingerbread, tinsel, fruitcake or tree ornaments. Just red Virginia and Perique.

Does this happen with all of the cuts of tobacco that you smoke?

Does this happen with all of the cuts of tobacco that you smoke? Couldn't swear to it. I don't remember everything I've smoked in it so far. I know I've smoked 2 bowls of CH, but I don't remember what else. Pretty likely there was a flake tobacco of some kind, given that's what I usually smoke.

Yesterday was a disappointing pipe day. I smoked two MM Legends during my drive to the Detroit Airport. When I got to my hotel in Denver late afternoon it was 37f with 16mph winds gusting to 33mph. Forgot to bring the wind cap and bics aren’t great in wind. Just before dinner, I went out and shared a bowl with the wind and didn’t both going out any more last night. Today was much better 40f with warm sun and just a breeze. So, today, I think I’ve managed 5 bowls so far. Granted small partially loaded bowls. What I brought for my three night trip are my three Dr. Grabow Royaltons and Pegasus and Yale Mixture to smoke.

I hear you bro… I think hotels should dedicate a room for smokers… and would probably lessen the amount of cigarette butts thrown on the property.
