I've been looking for a new watch to replace the Seiko that died after 27 years of great service. M'lady gave it to me for our first wedding anniversary. Luckily, I still have one I can use. But, it's got me wondering about what you folks like, so tell us about your watches.

so tell us about your watches. I love watches and feel naked without one but well speaking of 27 years of service, I thought I had lost or had stolen a Rolex that my wife gave me on our wedding day in 1990 along with a vintage Heuer Carrera, Omega Sea Master, wedding band, gold chains, Dunhill cigar band ring and the cash I didn't spend the after last years NASPC show. I was in a daze working 90+ hour weeks on the road at the time and I thought it could have been lifted at the hotel that I was staying at in Iowa or dropped out of my bag but I always hoped I had hid them on myself when I came home. I tore the house apart several times over the last year looking and had pretty much written them off when low and behold they turned up a couple of weeks ago. I've never had this happen but I cried tears of joy when I found them and I'm thinking of commissioning a custom two tone Castello ring with the cash I got back.

It's the least expensive one on the market and it's Guaranteed to be correct twice a day.

I'm a watch guy. The majority are what I call knocking around watches for every day use. Swiss Army, Casio, Invicta, Breed and a host of others. My "dress" watches are Breitling Chrono, Omega Speedmaster (the moon watch), Acutron that my company gave me at retirement. I recently got a pocket watch with a clip that goes through a belt loop. Many young people just rely on their cell phones for time these days; if they pay attention to time at all.

...I bought a Timex with a nice leather band some 20 years ago from the Timex company store in Little Rock AR. I was a supplier to their operations and several times a year we would receive invitations to buy a watch at a special price...it is my everyday watch and serves me well.
...Most expensive watch I ever purchased was a Citizen Navigator in 1997 which I gave to my oldest son on his 30th birthday...
...Like Jim, my wife gave me a Seiko "moon phase" watch in '85 for our 5th Anniversary...it died in 2005...

I like watches, but was never really drawn to spending a great deal of money on them. I have found Timex to offer some great style options at a great price point, and they are an American classic. The two I have are from their Waterbury & Weekender collections. They are throwbacks to designs from the early 1900's through the 1950's. Most can be had for under $100 and they are great looking watches.

Navy gave me a Rolex in UDT, wore it thru missions in S Asia, couldn't kill it, back in the USA I crawled under a Bulldozer to weld a Trac Link, crawled back out, watch on top of Trac, Friend who owned the Bulldozer had cold beer, drank a bunch sitting against Trac, got up, ( forgetting watch on Trac ) said to Buddy Fire her up , let's see how the weld does, well the weld was good, but the Dozer crushed the Watch. Fast forward to 86, ESOP program abolished by Politions Employee Stock Ownership Program, saying whatever I can't remember, had enough to pay house off, wife said you loved your Rolex , get one, got an Explorer for 2000$, it's worth 8500$ now, been my Companion since, but if truth be told all it does is tell time. Jim you need to get Frank in Germany, Stvalintine on this, he's a watchmaker for Handmade watches in Germany, he can give you the skinny on watches.

I like watches and at one time had a good collection of Bulova Accutrons. I sold off all but the first, a day-date 1976. Bought that when my first daughter was born. Somewhere along the line I realized they all did pretty much the same thing ... tell time. Now I have a few Timex for different occasions and they serve me well. I think the most expensive was around $65

Way to go JimInks. You outted me on yet another "AD" ! Bad enough that I suffer from TAD, PAD, EPAD, GAD, but now I have to come to grasps with the fact that I have had WAD for decades. I have an absolute affinity for Non-Battery watches. The windups are the most prevalent in my collection, with a couple of perpetual/selfwinders to round it out. Most of my watches are the equivalent of the estate pipes I've acquired here as of late. Not too expensive, with the exception of a couple, but really neat ol time pieces. I haven't photographed em all and probably should some day, but most of them are old Waltham, Whittenaur, Elgin, Hamilton, Bulova, etc... The dress watch is a limited production Clare. www.clarewatch.com/My daily time piece is a neat old Rolex I picked up many years ago from a good friend that buys up old inventory from watch and jewelry stores that have closed or are closing. It's a 1960's Rolex Oyster Date Precision. It's a wind up. Not perpetual.

I like rugged watches. I had the first model G-Shock for over twenty years. The rubber case finally rotted off, but the watch body lived on. I finally threw it away. Now they make replacement cases for the old ones. Too bad I didn't hang on to it. At any rate, I bought a new model (GD-100) about a year ago and love it. Subdued design, rugged and inexpensive.

I had a nice grouping of pocket watches ranging from a $30 Timex to an antique Elgin that I kept a picture of my wife in the cover. They were all liberated from me by persons un-named and I haven't bothered with watches since.Suns up,time to work.Suns gone down, time to sleep.Usually check the time on a cell phone if it's important, but I'm usually late getting anywhere anyway.

Well that didn't take long ... looks real nice, Jim! It took me a week and a half. I saw a few I really wanted, but they either lacked a feature I wanted or were too big for my wrist. I decided to go for simple and effective, plus the fact that I always wanted a chronograph and now, I'll have one. Here's one I'd have loved to have had, but it's pricey and too big for my wrist: www.jomashop.com/citizen-watch-cc9025-85e.html

I think that you made a very sensible choice. Now you can spend the other 939.01 on tobacco!

I could never keep a watch longer than a week or two. Same with sunglasses. No idea how many kids are out there running around with stuff their mom brought home from her hotel housekeeping job.
