I have every pipe I will ever need, and probably most every pipe I will ever want, something on the order of less than 20. I thought of maybe getting a sack of cobs. I could use them for trying new tobaccos, something I seem compelled to do. I just discovered the strong aromatics. (!)
I am not immune to acquisition syndromes, by no means. I have a book collection (accumulation) that is taking over my house, and I play music and so have more mandolins than I need. And don't ask me about my fly rods. I get it. I do.

Does anyone buy multiples of the same pipe? A while back I fell in love with one shape in particular. I fell hard and knew absolutely that every other pipe would be compromise. In order not to wear out the pipe, I dug deep, ate nothing but dry toast and ice water for a while, and bought four more of them.
Like having five of the same suit, so you look the same without wearing anything out.
It is the pipe people see me with and likely think it is always the same pipe.

Jeff, I was spending a little time here perusing the various threads and stumbled back across this one. In answer to your queston? Yes... Yes I do! As you can see from the pics above, I have the Bent Bulldog Acquisition Disorder bad... Real Bad! :-(

Before I found TAD and PAD I HAD what musicians refer to as GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome)... Guitarists are notably susceptible as I will here demonstrate.. Is that a SD 60? I have that same exact guitar with a Bigsby that stays open tuned. Tobacco is a bargain when compared to guitars or cars.

"Acquisition Disorder?" So, my condition finally has a name. It sounds better than Jessica's description of "stupid fucking collecting." Mine are tobacco collecting. I am not sure of the total weight, and I should probably not think about it, as I will see it as an opportunity to buy more. I can say that I have 14 plastic file tubs full of jars and tins with a haul of HU Tobacco to be placed soon. And, that does not include those on my ready smoke shelf. I also collect old English pipes, boutique cigars, Laphroaig, classic movies, old radio horror programs, anything by the great horror pulp fiction writers - Lovecraft, Howard, etc. - and classic English horror writers like James.

I am up to 63 briars, and assorted cobs, clays, and a few MacQueens, which I think are ash. I still have all i will ever need, but it seems from the above I did before too. Yikes. Well it didn't take long. I have nothing on my wish list, for now, in either pipes or tobaccos, but I would like to get some pipe racks or cabinet.

That escalated quickly. What happened? It sure did. I am not sure. I was just thinking of various joke answers. Try these: - "That escalated quickly. What happened?" Divorce settlement came through.
- "... What happened?" Took my lottery winnings in a lump sum.
I am gonna be honest with you though. With all of you.
What actually happened is more subtle. The past several years of experiencing loss. The passing on of friends and family members, often after slipping into extreme illness and "the last lap", but sometimes so breathtakingly fast and unexpected, has given me a kind of "do it now or don't do it", mentality. Not the most healthy way to budget the resources of one's life, I admit, but it has been impressed on my mind over the last few years that if you are buying a boat, don't get the small one planning some day to get the large one. Get the large one because "someday" may never happen.
This is not the same as a total hedonist, prioritizing pleasure over everything, but a creeping sense of mortality. That the clocks all go in the same direction.
Sorry - I don't mean to be a downer. And there is a ton of philosophizing and deep thinking that could probably be inserted here. Sufficient to say such deep thinking goes better with a brand new churchwarden full of Seattle Pipe Club Plum Pudding or Esoterica Tobacciana Dorchester.

Actually, I think you've been the opposite of a downer. You're taking the opportunity granted to you by the fact that you have 'right now' at your fingertips and no guarantee that 'later' will ever happen.

As the title suggests, this thread is about all of our, ok, ok, MY Acquisition Disorders... It started out innocently, about 1 1/2 years ago, when I only owned 1 pipe and 1 pouch of tobacco. Since that time I have fallen victim to PAD (close to 100 pipes now), TAD ( closing in on about 100 lbs of tobacco ) :-( Throughout all of this I also contracted EPAARD (estate pipe acquisition and refurbing disorder) and have just been outted by Blondie for what she has identified as my latest disorder.... MCAAD ! (mancave accessory acquisition disorder) thebriarpatchforum.com/thread/1477/mancave-redux-photosuckit-hostage-crisisthebriarpatchforum.com/thread/1668/new-seating-mancavethebriarpatchforum.com/thread/2305/impromptu-poker-game-mancavethebriarpatchforum.com/thread/2554/mancave-liberated-picture-heavyYou might not be able to tell it, but I've recently added a couple of more reproduction pipe tobacco signs... As well as some beer stuff. More specifically, Henry Weinhard's Beer Stuff ! In my own defense, those of you that know me, know that I'm a pretty thrifty shopper (Blondie calls me cheap), but nonetheless, I have definitely "accessorized" the place a bit over the last 1 1/2 years. Recalling your posts over the last couple of years, Dino, quite right. You look for the deals and estate opportunities. Good for you.
