In a comprehensive study of all public multiple shooting incidents in America between 1977 and 1999, economists John Lott and Bill Landes found that the only public policy that reduced both the incidence and casualties of such shootings were concealed-carry laws. Not only are there 60 percent fewer gun massacres after states adopt concealed-carry laws, but the death and injury rate of such rampages are reduced by 80 percent.

I conceal carry most of the time, both the wife and I typically carry Ruger SR9c’s so we have magazine compatibility should we both end up having to deal with some scumbags. I carry a Ruger .38 in an an ankle holster.
I sometime carry openly, never to make a point to anyone, just a matter of personal comfort, and It allows me to wear clothes that would look stupid for concealed carry. Fortunately, I live in a place where open carry doesn’t have any type of negative stigma attached... we do from time to time get a transplant that wets their pants if they se a gun, but they are rare.
Carrying openly, has allowed me to strike up great conversations with likeminded people, just like pipe smoking openly does.

My permit is good for NC, but I don't feel the need from what I have seen of the state. I noticed that NC doesn't allow firearms in the state capital. In Texas, if you have a permit, you can use the express lane. Pissed my wife off that she had to go through the metal detectors and purse x-ray while I was tapping my foot.

Just kidding, of course.
Mostly, our people are fine. This is just stuff picked up over the years.

The society we live in today, it’s better to be safe then sorry. Under my pillow is my Smith & Wesson 357 J-frame. On the inside frame of my bed I have a pistol magnet with my Ruger Commander 1911 as well. Lately there has been a rash of breaking and entering while the home is occupied. Tomorrow early am I’ll be at Drakes Outdoor shooting range before it gets to hot. Plus going out for breakfast by 7:00am👌👍

NRA member. My models, but not photos of my actual pistols (I'm too lazy to take my own photos ). Both are 40SW. I don't open or concealed carry, although I bought the bottom one for that potentiality. We have both here in Colorado, but if I strapped mine on and walked down the street, people would freak out and the police would stop and speak with me. Someone with a holstered sidearm did walk down the sidewalk of a strip mall near my home a few years ago and those exact things did happen. What he did was entirely legal, just unusual in the suburbs. I tend to think concealed is more appropriate for an urban area and open in a rural area at this point in time.

I can't find a magnet strong enough to hold my Star Model 30M. It's 12 oz heavier than a 1911 when loaded with 17 rounds of 147gr+p. I make up for the 8 round magazine by having a Remington R51 in the drawer.

I keep the front gate closed at night, often locked. There have been strange people at the door late at night when the gate was left open. It is a sad state when they are greeted with a gun in hand. That is what the drugs have brought. us. No hospitality. Ruger Deerfield,.44, kept handy. This time of year at night, it is either a bear or an unknown human. Neither are welcome.

Today I carry a pipe tool, Bic, money and keys.

One thing I like about some of the modern subcompact striker fired pistols is that they have a 10 round magazine that really helps with concealability, but they come with higher capacity mags and with the spacer, it feels more like a full size gun.
So with my edc, I have 45 rounds on tap... and with the advancements in powders and primers, the current 9mm isn’t like yesterday’s 9mm.

I'll probably get one at some point. There a few things that you can do to a Glock to make them a little more shootable. You can notice that this one has a stainless barrel and guide rod, the mag release has been sanded down to make it easier on the thumbs, it has an extended slide release, and mag floor plate extensions, it also has TruGlo sights that are fiber optic night sights. What you can't see is that it has a super polished crucible and a Ghost Rocket trigger making the trigger pull about 3lbs. all in all its super accurate and will shoot lead bullits. The black knife is a Benchmade Mini Reflex auto and the sliver knife is a Kershaw Scallion auto assist. and the badge is from when I was an EMT.

I saw this post in a tobacco thread, and didn't want to drag guns into it:
Try taking friends to the shooting range!
Ammo prices have jumped up over the years, and introducing a newbie to shooting can be a costly venture....Probably not a bad idea to leave the stash at home and take the newbie with you to the sportings good store for an education on ammo costs. I have friends that have full auto, I am welcome to go shooting whenever, but I rarely do..anything above 9mm can really ratchet up quickly.

They are oversized👍 You can purchase at Home Depot or Lowe’s Hardward large hooks with a heavy rubber coat that will screw into you bed frame...just drill 2 holes smaller then the thread on the hook you choose....strong and self-threading.

The handle scales I used are from woolly mammoth tusks, quite expensive....no room for any errors working with them. The blade is 1095 high carbon steel, holds an edge well. Those are highly polished tiger eye stones epoxied on the sheath, different angles for sharpening the blade when camping. Mammoth tusks - wow, very nice. Beautiful work! Just got back from breakfast and the range. Then enjoyed a few cigars at a decent smoke shop with a few local guys I met at the range. The picture below is the knife I made a few years ago. Hand cut brass bolster, hand finished & filed. The handle scales are Woolly Mammoth as mentioned prior....very time consuming but it was worth it. The blade steel is 1095 high carbon steel that has also been stone washed to protect against rust. My last name is hand acid etched in the blade.

Started throwing knives as well the same age.

I’ve suffered from KAD since I was 8 years old. Always carving some type of wood. Me too, Ted. I got my first pocket knife from my grandfather for my sixth birthday. Funny story about that. I was told that it was dangerous and to be careful with it and immediately took it out to show my friend (who was a bit like Eddie Haskell from Leave It To Beaver) and try it out ("Gee, Beav!"). We got some old cardboard, climbed up in an oak tree, and took turns stabbing it with my shiny new knife. That is until I put it through my left hand (between my thumb and index finger). My friend went off to get me a band-aid and never came back. LOL. Meanwhile, I stuck my hand under our outdoor water faucet to wash off all the blood, of which there was a lot. My mother came out, saw the situation, and took me off to the hospital to get stitches. I thought I would never see that knife again, but I asked her for it a few days later and she surprised me by handing it right over. She figured I'd learned my lesson, and she was right. I still have that knife, in fact it was in my pocket when we buried my grandfather in 1999. But I digress, sorry for the long soliloquy.

Walkman.....I still have the Schrade Scrimshaw pocket knife that my grandfather gave me when I was 14, it’s been used often, still in good condition. As per my Will the knife will be placed in my hand once my time is up here on Earth.

I carry a Rockwell 3" blade that P&C gave away some time ago. It is extremely sharp and a good throw away. When I go out with my wife I carry a 3" flip/folder also extremely sharp and has never cut anything but flesh. I was trained many years ago in the handling of a knife and how it feels to be cut by the Brotherhood from Compton, Ca. I'm old but deadly. I try to convince someone that it is not worth it to die...usually works.
