no offense to anyone who does but I think open carry is just ridiculous. I don't carry at all, but if I did it would be concealed. That said, I think open carry is fine in some rural settings, but not urban/suburban.

Open carry is fine if on “ your own “ property, especially if you own many acres👍 I agree, but think other rural areas can be fine as well. It really depends on what is considered normal and acceptable in the particular location. My uncle would always wear a sidearm when he went hunting, both while hunting and on the way. No problem when and where he lived. I don't know if it still would be. I can't imagine ever open carrying myself and don't support universal open carry.

I open carry when I take my nightly lunt with Brutus. Michigan is an open carry state, but a cpl/ccw is beyond what I have taken the time or expense to acquire. Here its in the neighborhood of 500 and a couple weekends in classes to acquire a cpl/ccw. Open carry is 18 or older and free. I only carry on my walks, but can see a need for concealed in the area I work in as its seedy at times because of the influx of amphetamines and it's horrible effects.

Yep, there are certainly some places where I would want to carry in whatever way appropriate.

My home neighborhood is quiet but there are critters from coyote on down to field mice. Half of the stuff I carry to protect myself feom carries rabies, and I don't want anything to do with that particular disease.

My home neighborhood is quiet but there are critters from coyote on down to field mice. Half of the stuff I carry to protect myself feom carries rabies, and I don't want anything to do with that particular disease. In your case this would be a perfect pistol to carry with choice of interchangeable chambers. I know many Texans that carry The Snake Slayer due to the capability of firing a .410 shell....just make sure when/if shooting the .410 it’s far from pointing towards your foot!! Perfect for those areas known for Rattlesnakes or other venomous snakes. SNAKE SLAYER The Bond Snake Slayer is one bad boy derringer. The barrel is 3.5 inches long and houses a .45 Long Colt (250 gr bullet) and or a .410 gauge 2.5 inch shotgun shell. I would say the Snake Slayer is not only a snake killer but can handle any critter causing you harm. Up close and personal I believe this small derringer can take out a large brown bear. I know you 500 S&W mag. warriors are choking on your coffee right about now. Here are the facts. In 1953 in Alberta Canada a Native American woman by the name of Bella Twin shot and killed, at the time, the world record brown bear. She used a Savage bolt action single shot rifle shooting a .22 Long round. Not a Long Rifle but a .22 Long. With one shot in the side of the head Ms. Twin dropped this monster in his tracks. She then jumped up and shot the bruin in the head eight more times using all the ammo she had with her. So if a .22 long can kill a huge brown bear then a .45 Long Colt can as well. I would hate to have to resort to this way in killing a brown bear. But choosing from being mauled and eaten or sticking this little giant under the bruin’s chin and pulling the trigger….well you can know my choice. So the Snake Slayer can double for snakes and larger animals who present themselves as a threat including dirt-bags. The .410ga shotgun round with #8 shot can eviscerate any snake you will encounter. The serious hikers and survivalists need to take a good look at this very neat firearm. Now I recommend you only shoot the four venomous snakes in North America and let the rat and mice eaters do what they do. The Bond Snake Slayer is a high quality firearm and cheap at $568.00, but like I said can be found below the $500 mark. SNAKE SLAYER SPECS Model: Bass / Snake Slayer Caliber: .357mag/.38spl or .45LC/.410shotgun Capacity: 2 Barrel: 3.5 inches Grip: Extended Rosewood Sights: Front blade, fixed rear Length: 5.5 inches Weight: 22.0 ounces Price: $568.00 (Can be found for $495.00) bondarms.com

Also scares my younger granddaughters when they notice someone open carry in town! We recently walked out of a restaurant because my youngest granddaughter noticed two people open carrying and said to me “ grandpa, I’m scared...can we leave “! Even though we had placed our order I explained to the manager the issue....he understood.

I open carry even in the airport picking up friends and family... totally legal up to the TSA checkpoint. Granted, I dress nice, leather rig not an Uncle Mike’s crappy nylon holster while wearing baggy pants.
Totally acceptable in the Southwest, but it would lead to fecal encrusted pants in slave states.

The Snake Slayer is in a category of derringers by itself, they have a purpose when walking in heavily wooded areas or climbing in mountainous regions in the heat. Snakes hide in the oddest places to get out of the heat/sun. Definitely not a number one carry self defense weapon but with a 3.5” barrel and a .357 round it will save your life for sure. Makes for the perfect ankle pistol. I’d also carry a side arm👌👍

Other then shooting a .22, this derringer will sting your hand firing a .357 or .410. This derringer is so well crafted it’s like holding a piece of Art with custom scroll work on the barrels.

Since living in NC I had to draw and point my weapon one time....my bank parking lot was closed so I parked across the street. The lot was being painted on a Sunday. I did NOT walk near the painted area, just walked towards an ATM. From my left I heard a guy yelling in Spanish....will not repeat in English...he was swinging a shovel over his head running towards me. I had no choice but to draw my weapon, he was lined up for a torso shot with the next 15 steps towards me. His boss finally noticed and heard me yelling “ drop your shovel, it’s a deadly weapon “! His boss grabbed the shovel when he was less then 20 feet from me. His boss sent him off the premises, however I still called the Sheriffs Department, I had no choice but to draw my Ruger Commander 1911, I wanted the “ situation “ on file just in case of any repercussions......none followed. Wow.

In the Eighties, I took my wife to New Orleans, we did the tourist, thing last destination was Jax Brewery, ate and started back to the Wyndham Hotel, I don’t know how I did it but I didn’t follow my usual route, go with the most traffic, we wound up on a side street, depmsy dumpter on the Wall, 3 young men appear from behind it we were about 60 ft away,. I grabbed my wife and put her on other side of them, drew my Star PD, made sure it was ready, and pointed it at them telling them I can kill 2 of you and maybe the third, while walking fast away from them. They stayed where they were. We got back to the hotel, and I made a promise, no more Big Easy.

Ironically despite the troubles in the past, Belfast is safe as houses, relatively speaking anyway. Where I live is a bit in the country, but whether I'm in Belfast or the country, I can happily walk at 1 am and feel perfectly safe. There are, of course, some places in Belfast to stay away from, but on the whole you'd rarely hear of anything like that.

Do you have some special reasons for concern?

Ron, here in NC I have concern....there has been a rash of home invasion during the day while homes or businesses are occupied. This last Tuesday morning the McDonald’s 5 minutes from here where I pick up different items for my ex ( I don’t eat McDonald’s ) at roughly 5:30am was robbed at gun point. I’ve been there that early prior!! Another business on rt.64, in a “ great area “ of Knightdale was robbed during daylight while the business was occupied. If I’m walking around the house in my jogging pants I carry my Sig Sauer P-238 in my pocket. I’d much rather be safe ten sorry!!!

We worry some about home invasion, but we are in a small neighborhood with one entrance at the end of a dead end road. No through traffic and strangers are noted. I don't carry in the house, but I am never more than 10 ft from a firearm. In my truck the 44 is always on the seat by my leg. I finally found a thin enough pocket holster for my Tomcat that it doesn't bulge too much. My wife confiscated my LCP.

I got my Ganzo Firebird cleaver today. Pretty impressive knife. I don't have any use for it right now, but I will add it to the pile of cool knives that I can't seem to stop accumulating.

For the price I was totally blown away with the quality craftsmanship. Those are carbon fiber handle scales👍👍. Lube up the axis lock and the washers around the pivot area, it’s lightning fast. Now waiting for Brad too also chime in.....HEY “ oldcajun “......” whatyathink “ so far???

I don't carry any more, but when I lived in Miami (this is 20+ years ago) I had to carry a 9mm. just to go to the garage (separate from the house about 20ft.)....and I lived in a nice part of town. Just so many home invasions in broad daylight...if they saw you, you were a target...no reason other than they could...or thought they could. This was during the cocaine days. This is why I moved to Tallahassee, Fl.

The only reason for carbon fiber scales is if you are doing away with the metal liners for weight saving. I have seen 1 knife that was actually carbon fiber (except for the blade), and it was VERY expensive. More than it was worth.
