My jazz tastes are pretty old school - Ah, I forgot Cab. There were so many on my list I thought I had most of them. Man, this guy was talented and had a wonderful voice. Nicholas Brothers cool, too

Anyway the thread is lacking some of my favorite Avant garde musicians. So here is a link to one of John Zorn's more accessible recordings
And some of his stranger stuff

Did someone say avant-garde? The peter brotzmann album may be a little noise for those who don't like noise.

Glorious chord changes, brilliant arrangement, killer alto sax solo.

Fusion jazz- Barry Miles on piano and synthesizer, song written by his half-brother who is playing drums, Terry Silverlight. Outrageous complex synthesizer solo.

Just not in to jazz. I'm an old rock and roll enthusiast. The 50's, 60's and 70's were the golden age of Rock and Roll...many great groups put out 1 album and that was it. They were good but limited or split into other groups. They were trying to find their golden spot. Some succeeded and some did not. I remember some that were fantastic, but then the died off (not literally). There were so many outstanding groups that they were overwhelmed with the number of groups that were just a little bit better and so crowded out "their" sound. Just life. I can understand that. Not every genre is for everyone. I just love the sounds that brass instruments make. hubby too, but then he played the trumpet so what does he know, lol. I grew up listening to Herb Alpert.

Billy Holiday fits my mood at the moment.
Her early recordings with Teddy Wilson and Lester Young are outstanding.
Dinah Washington is another of my favorites. Especially the sessions she did on EmArcy. She was backed up by some of the hottest cats available.

I am always amazed by how much absolutely amazing jazz there is. I've listened to a fair amount of jazz, but really only dipped my big toe into the pond. I don't think I will ever run out of new, to me, jazz albums to enjoy. A genre with a bountiful wealth.

I really like @chico s choices. I mostly like the slow smoky, bourbon sipping club jazz, but I can't usually find it outside of a Noir movie. Here is a new guy singing old songs. I like his style.

Well one, this is a darn good thread, and two, a number of fine outstanding individuals have been mentioned here I've totally forgotten about. It will be great to explore them once again. Blue Note and Verne are two outstanding labels that introduced a number of these jazz musicians. Here's a group with a number of talented individuals called Snarky Puppy:
