Well one, this is a darn good thread, and two, a number of fine outstanding individuals have been mentioned here I've totally forgotten about. It will be great to explore them once again. Blue Note and Verne are two outstanding labels that introduced a number of these jazz musicians. Here's a group with a number of talented individuals called Snarky Puppy: ...David Crosby remarked to me not long ago that this is his favorite band...

hubby too, but then he played the trumpet so what does he know, lol. I grew up listening to Herb Alpert. Trumpets on steroids : WOW! Hubby was impressed. He couldn't believe he'd never heard of this guy.

yup, he and Teagarden were like brothers He lived around the block from my ex’s Dads grocery store in Corona, Queens. The same home he was born in, he stayed there his entire life. My ex brother in law and I delivered groceries to him often back in the mid to late 60’s. My ex father in law knew him well, spoke very highly of him. He’d have hot cocoa for us with cookies or cake when he knew we were stopping by with a delivery. He gave back to the community he grew up in, Louis Armstrong had a heart of gold.....nobody went hungry in Corona!! We always called him Mr. Louie out of respect. My ex’s family were invited to his funeral. May he Rest In Peace 💔💔💔 Satchmo apparently smoked weed every day. No wonder he loved those cookies!

On guitar:
Pat Martino Joe Pass Jim Hall Ted Green Allan Holdsworth
Drums: Mark Guliana Max Roach Buddy Rich Chad Wackerman
Reeds: Eric Dolphy Coltrane Stan Getz
Keys: Chick Corea Oscar Peterson Brad Meldau Keith Jarred
I'm sure I spelt some of these wrong, but it should be close enough if curious to hear what they sound like.
Funny how many people hate jazz. Never quite got why. Maybe it's because people often think it's this pretentious thing only black people in smokey new york lounges are cool enough for. It really has more to do with syncopation and complex chords than it does wardrobe and quinty eyed contemplative facial expressions.

Blue Note and Verne are two outstanding labels that introduced a number of these jazz musicians. Here's a group with a number of talented individuals called Snarky Puppy: That synthesizer solo made Corey Henry world famous, and will be his life long crowning achievement. I got a transcription of it written down by a guy on YouTube. I loved it when Shaun Martin starts shaking his head in disbelief and finally just gets and walks away. It was obvious that the band members knew how incredible that take was. It was also fun to see the two guys bouncing up and down and clapping their hands in the control booth.

I'm listening to the latest album (maybe the only one) from Jeff Goldblum and the Mildred Snitzer orchestra. It's pretty good. Is that in your ball park, Screaming Jazz?

Didn't even know that Jeff Goldblum made/performed jazz music. I'll give it a listen and report back! I just saw that David Lynch released a jazz album with Angelo Badalamenti. Sounds very interesting. I'll listen to both and post my thoughts here.

I instantly recognized the first song on the Jeff Goldblum album. Unmistakably it's a Herbie Hancock song. While not as good as Hancock's performance, it's solid.

Haitian Fight Song may be the most powerful song I have ever heard. Mingus was an amazing composer.

Many to choose from during the golden age of fusion. Coming in towards the middle-later years may I present the Dixie Dregs..
Not to mention their bluegrass/country and rockin' jams etc. quite diverse !!!

No Jazz collection can be complete without Django Reinhardt, Nina Simone, Benny Goodman, Jack Teagarden, Ella, Sidney Bechet, Dizzy Gillespie, Stephane Grappelli, Duke Ellington, Oscar Peterson, and Artie Shaw.
I grew up listening to the greats thanks to my stepfather, whose default music mode was “Jazz”.
A few years back, a Canadian group resurrected a bunch of old Django stuff, they went by Pearl Django, worth a listen.
