Nice thread to start.
I've never been big into jazz, but I DO like a good jazz song (good, in my ears at least).
What I don't like about a lot of jazz is that it seems to be a load of people playing different instruments while in the back of a truck. By that, I mean that people come in and play a few notes, then stop...tiss titit tiss titit tiss...some more notes....tiss titit tiss titit tiss....badooom doom doom....some more notes from another instrument, the stop....tiss titit tiss titit tiss....some more notes. All the time a piano player is playing random chords. It's like, every time the truck turns a corner, the players stop playing to steady themselves and so they never get to play the full tune at one time.
Now, I'm not dissing it - I think, when it works it's great, but I haven't heard many that work (for me...that's the main thing...they don't work FOR ME).
I like more smooth jazz with a tune that I know is an actual tune.

There is a book called โKind of Blueโ that is about the making of the album. A great book about the perfect album. Apart from that, I love classic jazz!

Just not in to jazz. I'm an old rock and roll enthusiast. The 50's, 60's and 70's were the golden age of Rock and Roll...many great groups put out 1 album and that was it. They were good but limited or split into other groups. They were trying to find their golden spot. Some succeeded and some did not. I remember some that were fantastic, but then the died off (not literally). There were so many outstanding groups that they were overwhelmed with the number of groups that were just a little bit better and so crowded out "their" sound. Just life.

Not every genre is for everyone. I just love the sounds that brass instruments make.

I figured there were probably a lot of non-jazz fans on here so I posted some albums I thought were not so crazy. My favorite jazz albums are really out there. Not for everyone but that's fine.

yup, he and Teagarden were like brothers He lived around the block from my exโs Dads grocery store in Corona, Queens. The same home he was born in, he stayed there his entire life. My ex brother in law and I delivered groceries to him often back in the mid to late 60โs. My ex father in law knew him well, spoke very highly of him. Heโd have hot cocoa for us with cookies or cake when he knew we were stopping by with a delivery. He gave back to the community he grew up in, Louis Armstrong had a heart of gold.....nobody went hungry in Corona!! We always called him Mr. Louie out of respect. My exโs family were invited to his funeral. May he Rest In Peace ๐๐๐

Probably everyone familiar with this. Skip to 2:45 to hear the greatest scat session ever recorded. Disney was a Louis Prima fanboy. I used to do this on the loading dock at work to keep the troops entertained.
