A mere -18 degrees air temp this morning. Should warm to near or above +32.
You mid-westerners have my sympathy.

It appears many parts of the US will be in for a baby boom in approx. 9 months! Only for first born children. If you already have at least one kid then everyone in the house is at each others throats by now after being cooped up in the house for a few days. None of that business going on.

12 hrs left of this insanity, last night after I got home the furnace hiccuped. Scared the daylights out of me, and I lost 10 degrees of heat in 30 minutes. This morning is -17f air temp. By the time I go to bed tonight it'll be zero with calm air.. finally. This spring I'll be installing some line heaters on the cold water pipes in the bathroom theyre all frozen. 100 year old house and the bathroom was an addition, man its been rough.

-4, clear in Western NY, could hit +10, at least no wind. No morning Rochester paper yet due to 34 vehicle wreck on NY State Thruway somewhere between Buffalo & Rochester (distributor). Yeah, we have online edition but too difficult to navigate. Latest news on our "homepage" of MSN, also frequent breakins from TV programs. Just to think....could hit +50 by coming Sunday.

Here in lower TN been 35 during the day and 15 at night . No heat in the old trailer or insulation for that matter. Been running those oil heaters to keep it a toasty 38-40 degrees inside . Water keeps trying to freeze , cant leave running cause the drain pipe is froze. Set alarms to get up every 2 hours at night to let the water run for 10 mins or so. But it was only 2 days and probably wont happen again here till next winter. I wouldn't say it was fun, but its really not a big deal. Part of the adventure. Gave me more time to smoke and work on stuff around the place. When its the same temp inside as outside might as well go outside. I feel for you guys in worse places. I cant even imagine the cold some of you are experiencing. I know I am blessed but reading what you guys are going through just reminds me . Often good to be reminded how blessed several of us are. I will add I need to invest in some better dang socks. I don't know if my feet are ever going to be warm again! HA

dervis, I admire your upbeat attitude towards your perspective. To explain your predicament over the last 48 hours then extend your thoughts to those who have it worse and comment how blessed you are is admirable. In this day of "first world problems" you my friend have a good head on your shoulders.
I think there is a strong possibility you wouldn't even take me up on the offer but if interested I would like to send you a pack of wool socks. PM me your address and they will be on their way.

-35 in Hayward Wis reported by one of Christy's customers -45 with wind chill. +42 in the swamp sitting by the fireplace in the fifth wheel sipping my coffee while being attacked by the deadly ninja Chihuahua. Stay warm and safe fellow pipers.

I know that feeling. I had that happen to me years ago in Winter. Boiler for the circulating hot water heat died. I could not any help as I was too far from town. I had to abandon that system and rely on a wood-stove. Are you familiar with Frostex Pipe Heating Cable? Far superior to the old heat tape. Check it out.
