Are any Patchers bidding on the 143 Black Oak Morta which is finishing in 5 minutes? If not, I'd like a bent Morta. It's at $16 atm so it's worth trying a bid. I was bidding on it but I dropped out. I have bids in on a couple of cheaper ones.

There's a bent Poker Morta up for auction. It's day 7 and it's already $23.50. I'm expecting a lot of competition for this one. Anyone else have a bid already on the Poker? Four days to go before the auction concludes and the Bent Poker is up to $38. It would not surprise me if it goes for $50 or more. It's a really nice looking pipe and considering that it's made from Bog Oak, it's still excellent value.

I won a large bent apple for $20. I have bids on a couple more but I am hoping that I will be outbid.

I haven't had PAD for a second Morta pipe. I also suspect shape isn't going to alter the smoking experience too much. I like the bent apple I have very much, but unlike briar, I have not wanted nor felt I needed another.

I like the shape of the 146 that concludes in two days but really, as I already have one similar to yours and a bent Morta I really don't need another.

As I have not smoked a Morta before I'm unable to say whether shape affects the smoking experience. Pokers are my new favourite since buying a Road Town briar and winning a Pear Wood Poker for $3.25. Both are really good smokers, feel good in the hand and they sit all by themselves. Although I'd love to have the bent Poker Morta that I mentioned, it will be closer to $100aud including postage by auctions end I suspect. It's a fine looking pipe that I hope to resist. [Darn PAD, lol]

Not bad for $20. I see that you've got the high bid for the 146 at $14.50 [iirc] That wouldn't be so bad to win at that price. Have you noticed that the same seller has Buy It Now pipes for €10.99? Described as '218 Pfeife Hand Made', it does not say whether it's briar, morta or any other material. They've also got other pipes for the same price with the same description, that look like they have a metal cap around the bowls rim. Wonder what material they're made from.

He recently listed a more elegant, finished Morta pipe.

I took a stab at these and won a #126 bent poker that arrived yesterday and a #133 billiard that should be here in a few days. I got the poker for $20.00 and the billiard for $16.00. The poker looks like a well made pipe and I'll give it a try later today.

The bent Poker with 4 days to go is already $38. It would be a good idea if Patchers post which pipe they're after. First in with an ebay bid is given a clear run.

After the first pipe is won, I would simply inform R.T. about your intentions. If the pipes are won within a reasonable time a week or so, you can save a bit of money.

Yeah he's done the same for me, waiting for a few auctions to finish before I pay for the first one. Both German ebay sellers from whom I've bought a lot of pipes, they would send up to 8 pipes for the same postage as one. On the odd occasion when I had also won a pipe rack, I was charged a little extra due to the weight.

I've just received my 135 Black Oak Morta pipe. I'm impressed with the quality of workmanship. It seems light for it's size and feels really good in hand.
I'll give a report on how she smokes after a few bowls.

Whose going for the 146 that finishes in 10 hours? v***v [1086] I'll leave you to it. Good luck, it's a nice pipe.

His pokers are the most attractive. I have a Radice and a Winslow poker, but although they are great smokers, the shape doesn't speak to me like this guys do.

Don't get carried away or else I will have to change the title of this thread to "kind of" or "fairly inexpensive Morta pipes". or, if you go way to far, "Morta pipes".

I've done all I'm going to do. I had bid high on the Rhodesian before I won the apple. I might be selling them soon too.

Collective pipe buying hysteria has been known to happen around here.

Here's my question. These are in fact actual Morta? Seen some "Ukrainian" Morta pipes go cheap on ebay, then ship from China, and upon arrival it becomes clear they are simply plain old Oak stained black. Heard of this a few times and remain skeptical of the accuracy of the descriptions given the prices and experiences others have had. Love my Morta but damn, too rich for my blood, I was lucky with store credit at the ready when I scored a Duca. Basically I want someone to tell me these are no good so I don't chase after any more pipes.

I got one of those Chinese "Ukrainian Morta" pipes. It is as you say black stained misc hardwood. It is very well carved and engineered though. I wouldn't smoke it on a bet. I hitched and they refunded the full amount. I only paid $45,but I see that some are selling for $200 now. They are the Olner pipes.

Hi I would first read the thread in its entirety, where a number of your concerns have been noted and addressed*. Afterwards, with a bit more information in hand, you should have a better idea if the pipes are worth your trouble. Q *For example, When you say Morta, I think you mean the Morta pipes you have seen. I can buy Morta at a fairly decent price. However, an artisan pipe maker's work is a different matter. I have elaborated on this (as well as other) point(s) in the posts previous to this one, including information on the seller/carver who appear to be the same person.

It's a forum Q, we repeat everything about 10000 times regardless of the topic. A morta will be my next pipe purchase.

I'm getting to it, man. You can disregard me, I'm spread pretty thin lately and jumping in mid conversation for five minutes before I'm off to somewhere. And I agree, the cost of Morta blocks versus primo Briar ones is negligible, it's the maker that determines how well constructed the end result will be. The orientation of grain, it's balance, internal engineering, and a comfortable stem do not come cheap.

At least I won't. Will gladly trade some cherished pipes for another Duca, or Becker if someone is feeling generous or suffering a lapse in judgement.
