Not sure yet what I will be chowing down on, but presently enjoying a bowl of Z92 in a German churchwarden and some of my "custom made" vino da tavola. I can relish a really good wine when the occasion presents, but I also enjoy a simple, light table wine and I mix my own. I know: some think mixing wines is like wearing flipflops to the opera. I care not. (I also don't care for opera.) I buy box wines. Usually a moscato for the sweetness, a red like Merlot, Cabernet, or even Burgundy for the red body, and then mix them with water. A third of each for starters, but this can vary according to taste— lighter, add more water; more full bodied or drier, increase the red ratio; sweeter, up the Moscato (or other favorite white). This is light, pleasant, and no buzz stuff until the fourth or fifth glass, if you are so inclined! BTW, the Greeks and Romans routinely watered their wine, as much as half-and-half. To them, drinking full strength wine was the bailiwick of drunkards. One other note: I used to make this in a large container and then bottle it. (The best bottles I have used are Pendleton Canadian bottles— tank tough and suitably stylish on the table.) Now I do it a bottle at a time, as needed. Just hold the bottle under the wine boxes and let 'er flow. Lovely with almost any food and of course can be tailored to the menu. And speaking of menus, now I have to decide what supper is gonna be...

Last one I saw was the Flying Dutchman and it was overwhelming. The only one I didn't enjoy was the world premiere of Akhnaten, by Philip Glass. People were walking out before the intermission. Did you ever see GLass' opera "Nixon in China"? We saw it in '88 in LA. Fun. Weird but fun. I enjoy opera and listen to it rarely. The Italians do a good job but Wagner is the Boss Man for me. I like the drama!

Enjoyed a little port last night after dinner. Christmas gift from Mark. There was a third bottle... but I'm being selfish and saving that one. There were both very good. The 2010 won the prize though. There was a time I enjoyed Port. Collected Cockburn's from the 1970s and 1980s. Moved on to Madeira. A little sharper taste with all the richness. If you go for the medium 'Rainwater" variety. A drier Malmsey is a treat.

I like Italian opera. Last one I saw was the Flying Dutchman and it was overwhelming. The only one I didn't enjoy was the world premiere of Akhnaten, by Philip Glass. People were walking out before the intermission. Did you ever see GLass' opera "Nixon in China"? We saw it in '88 in LA. Fun. Weird but fun. I enjoy opera and listen to it rarely. The Italians do a good job but Wagner is the Boss Man for me. I like the drama! No. We only saw this one because we had season tickets to the Houston Grand Opera that year and it was the world premiere of the Opera. It really sucked. Almost as bad as Woody Allen's Interiors. Just awful. I mean most of the audience didn't return after intermission, And this was the tip top of Houston society. You never saw so many furs and diamonds outside of a movie.

Too early for me to drink anything now, but... My neigbor called me up...'Hey what happened to the hood of your truck"? I ran outside because over the last few days, my kids used it and never mentioned any mishap nor mayhem. These were sitting on the hood courtesy of my neighbor. I need more booze like I need a hole in the head, one of the perks of my last job was culling the herd of bottles that were still seal intact, but the plastic cover was compromised by people spinning the anti-shoplifting caps.
