50 years ago the town in Carolina that I live in now was a small farming town.It had a few hundred folks in town and some more in surrounding farms..Then the electric company built a dam in the river and created a huge lake..Now the town has 40,000 folks, and it's growing every day..Just land with no house on the lake cost a million dollars an acre..If you don't know what an acre is it's roughly 200 feet by 200 feet..A good many 2 million dollar houses on that lake..Some as much as 7 million..Every thing is private property now..No place to fish unless you have a boat..I guess that's what folks call progress.

About 8pm last night the movers had just arrived and we heard a disturbance. The local policeman was driving by and since we had a false alarm and he knew that we weren't living here yet he decided to check it out. Put quite a scare into the Guatemalan and Ecuadorian movers! We spoke to him and it was all good. Great guy, but he was equipped like a one man swat team. Big as one too.

It was a hot night so I had the window wide open. I am in bed reading around 11:00 PM when suddenly a policeman's head pokes through the window. We were both surprised. He was a little embarrassed and said he never seen this window open with the light on before at night. I thanked him for his diligence and keeping an eye on my old mother. That is small town service!

I am fixing to take the doors off my jeep. It is a 2014 Sahara Jeep Unlimited in silver. I bought some tools and things to make it easier. I didn't think about the side mirrors which are connected to the doors, so I ordered some side mirrors on stalks that fit into the empty door hinge. And I just received my fitted tarp, with which I can cover the jeep if it gets to raining.
The biggest problem is where to put the four doors. The garage if full of I don't even know what. I see some people have these homemade racks made from PVC pipe and that looks excellent. I can put them alongside the house, put a piece of canvas over them and - good to go.
I am really anxious how hard or easy it will be to smoke a pipe without the doors. I have successfully smoked with all four windows open, at highway speeds, and I got it working. The trick was to light up while parked on the shoulder.

Small town in California with a history of hiring smart cops with experience and education. Is it snowing? No snow or rain. Blowing 60 to 70 MPH. Unlikely precip as the clouds will be kept out of the valley. That is what has happened most of time and why we get so little precip.

It's hot and humid here in Linden, again. Wasn't bad at all this morning. I just finished unloading the trailer and truck and sat. Wife fixed 2 racks of baby back ribs and the smell has my stomach rumbling. Was supposed to be a cool front through tomorrow, but it stalled and isn't coming. Tree guy is coming tomorrow to open up the driveway for my building that's coming next week. Boxes everywhere and we can hardly walk through the house. Wife unpacked a bunch but not as fast as I brought it in! 😁

As usual, I labored on Labor Day...but the fence is fully up and completely painted. My wife is happy, my beer stash is completely depleted, and the dogs and the grandkids will have a place to play without getting run over by some kid in a slammed whatever zipping past the park.

I recovered enough to mow an acre. Felt pretty good out there after the sun went behind the trees. Now if I could just lift my foot up enough to get in the shower.....

Getting ready to go pick up the generator. I think I will try this new fangled curb side delivery for the first time and take my dog along for the ride to Lowes. I also need some 10/4 BX cable but I have a friend with some used stuff just laying around and that beats buying new as I only need about 6ft.

About 5 inches of that wet, cold, white stuff on the ground. Not that cold and it appears there has been much melt so I am guessing more fell than we see on the ground. Slushy puddles in spots. The ground is not very cold and they did not freeze. 28 degree just now.

I'm doing a happy dance. It is FINALLY cool enough in the evenings that I can step out on the porch and enjoy a smoke. I think tonight I will have another go at the Salty Dog I was gifted by a fellow of another forum who I am playing chess with via the internet.

I also need some 10/4 BX cable but I have a friend with some used stuff just laying around and that beats buying new as I only need about 6ft. Always a good idea to run a piece of copper wire (I prefer #12 size) from the generator to an iron or copper rod stuck into the dirt about at least 6". This provides you a good ground for the generator. I put an electrical box on the outside of my home with an identical box on the other side of the wall in the house. Hook the two electrical outlets with #12 wire. This gives you an outlet in the house so that you don't need to run your power line through a window or door (keeps your home secure where no one can come into your home either through a window or door. Just a suggestion that worked wonderfully for me. Just got back from the grocery store with supplies for the next couple of weeks...trying to minimize our exposure to those fools who are not wearing a mask in the public places.

Trees guys came early this morning and I don't know what I was expecting but they brought 3 trucks with trailers and a cherry picker. Making great time on the trees. Then the census taker came by and we found out that he designed our pond when he worked for the government. He said that the people dug it out because it was a swamp anyway but he didn't think that it had enough watershed to keep it full. He also goes to the church we are going to and will be in our Sunday school class. Found out more about our neighbors and the area. We love it here.

Sun popped out and warmed the area up to 36 degrees. Snow melting fast. Robins found a bush outside my house with edible berries still on it and made an all day feast out of it. The auto focus on the camera adjusted to the window screen, so the bush and birds are a little blurry. That is sonar for you!

Everything running on the generator for a couple of hours now with no hiccups. Ran on a quart of gas for one hour and now on homemade propane set up that I made out of stuff laying around and parts off the old one. Lowes curbside worked out pretty good as I used a phone app and only waited about 10 minutes once I pulled up. Last month we had to spend three days at a local hotel so it will be well worth the money spent after the next brown out or hurricane.
