Major law enforcement incident last night on the highway here. Over 24 LEO vehicles from two states and two counties plus BLM and USFS police- federal officers. Seems a fugitive from Pennsylvania ended his flight to avoid prosecution here in Costilla NM.

Got to sleep at 3AM. Just woke up to the sounds of jackhammers out on the highway. 😕 I hate that! Seems like today’s going to be a coffee day Ron.☕️ Yeah, coffee and old movies.

Yeah, coffee and old movies. What constitutes an old movie? 2000 and below? 34 to 52 are the best.

Watching "They Drive at Night", 1940, about trailboss youth. Next is up "The Maltese Falcon", a National Geographic nature film from 1941.

Had that happen on I-40 just west of Gallup, NM...seems someone had shot a state trooper near Flagstaff..looked in my rear view mirror and saw nothing but flashing lights...miles of them, pulled over called out on the CB...they were looking for a white van (just like the one I was driving)...slowed down and kept my hands on the top of the steering wheel where they could be clearly seen, white van streaked past me tried to switch to the west bound lane and flipped the van end over end...never saw that before, said a brief prayer (for myself and the shot trooper) and proceeded to go on down the road as all the flashing lights converged on the other white van.

Looking outside the window and winds currently blowing at 56 mph or 90 klms. Wondering when I’ll lose power and time to batten down the hatch. Cheers everyone... I may be blowing your way.

The local crime report from yesterday and this morning. Remember this is a rural village of 180 people. 20 miles to the south is a town of maybe 1,000?
Last evening: a fugitive from Pennsylvania pursued by LEOs from CO and NM drives into our village. A shootout ensues with dozens of round fired. Perp shoots self and cuts own throat.
Later: a youngish neighbor (late 20s or early 30s) is walking along highway and struck by car which flees leaving him dead on the road.
Later: Pharmacy and Dollar Store in the nearby little town is robbed at gunpoint by multiple perps.
Later: Deputy Sheriff has head on collision with oncoming car on highway at our village.
Crime scene investigators all over the place.
This was the first day of the second COVID lockdown. I am hiding under my bed.

I walked down to the pond again. It was a beautiful day. I made a second long walk to take out the garbage that won't burn. Exhausted!

Actually got everything done today that was on the list. Got some appliances moved for someone else, got the washer and dryer picked up for Shweetie and had a profitable visit at the attorney's office looking for answers to help get this young man back on track.
And the attorney didnt even charge me.

A hit and run no doubt by someone from over the border as a local would not have had the chance to accelerate enough to kill anyone. Chances are the hold up men are from over the border. That is the usual MO. Crime here, run there. I see little benefit to going anywhere.

Well John, I suppose statistically there shouldn’t be much crime the rest of the year! One can hope. But sadly, looking at the times we live in I don't think that will hold true even in the small towns of America.

Wait till they find out who John really is, then the proverbial dung will hit the fan.
