Got the wood stove going. Something about having a fire in the stove on rainy or cold days/nights. Lived with out wood stove for about 11 years of my life never again best heat ever. I would agree. I love the heat from a wood stove. I always wanted a wood burning fireplace, even with all my years in the scouts cooking over the campfire. After having one for 15 years, I am glad to be rid of it. It was pleasant, but the cleaning up of ashes was a pain. I am happy to have the 2 gas fireplaces. We just need to get some more attractive logs for the one in the den.

I miss the woodstove from the farm. The first house I tried to buy had a pellet stove. Hated it! Unless you buy premium grade pellets (or so I am told) they are worthless. I couldn't afford anything near premium so I was basically heating the area around the stove on that side of our living room, even with the electric fan. Even upstairs was cold! (and heat rises) Of course that might have been because we were trying to buy a renovated home that was originally built in the 1890's!
Lost that home due to a layoff in 2009....(No pity please, had I done my part better we would have weathered that storm)

Got my score from Monday night Pistol League. I said I thought I scored about 405-410, out of 500. Turns out I scored 420.
Next week is called "Fun & Games" night. The "course of fire" will include shooting a "smiley face" on a target - like Mel Gibson did in Lethal Weapon. And Bullet BINGO - where they call the letter/number combination - and you have a short period of time to find it and shoot it on a BINGO target. There are usually a couple of "bingos" (5 in a row) for extra points - unless you miss 1 or more of those 5 squares.

Been spending a some time "mining gold" on the reloading bench the last few days. So far 400 rounds of 115gr 9mm Hollow Point and 300 rounds of 124gr 9mm Hollow Points.
Tomorrow I'm hitting a couple gun stores for some more powder and primers - and some .308 bullets. I'm fortunate enough to have enough materials to reload several 1000 more rounds - of several pistol calibers and a couple rifle calibers - but with a few more materials I can do even more - or just be ready to.
My new puppy has decided it's interesting enough to lay at my feet while I'm at it. Today she chased down a casing that I dropped and brought it to me as if she knew what she was doing. Think she's going to work out just fine.

Primers are indeed almost unobtainium. Especially SPs. Also SRs from what I hear.

All online stores are out. I use 2 powders for .308. IMR 4895 and BL-C(2). I prefer IMR 4895. Have a couple of pounds, but could use more. Have plenty of BL-C(2) if I have to use it. Not sure if .308 bullets will be available.

I miss tossing the occasional lump of hard coal into the stove. The mine west of Trinidad CO has shut down. Great hard coal. Clean burning. There are veins accessible in the road cuts near the mine if I want to go up there with a pick and some buckets.

It didn't take much to heat the house.

Powder Valley is a good source of propellants as well as primers. I haven’t checked, but I’m betting they too will be out of primers. They are always hard-hit by handloaders. I stocked up on both when the last anti-gun prez came along. At the rate I’ve been shooting lately I’m good for life.

They discharged just fine.

Cloudy, rainy and cold today, about 36°. Heading down to the town 35 miles south of here today with the horse trailer. An organization down there has donated 40 full turkey dinners to donate tonight, and they gotta be fetched up. Who knew an 18' stock trailer was such multi-tasking rig?

Someone else actually donated the meals, and the ladies are making up the boxes and giving them to the folks who come in to recieve them. Ive got the easy part. There's people all over this land doing these things this time of year, and it sure makes me scratch my head and wonder how folks can say this country never really was that great.

Everyone has a part to play, and you are holding up your end. Without you the food wouldn't get to the people who need it. I would like to do more for others, and I'm hoping that as we get settled in here I will find opportunities to do so.
