34 degs in Cajunland, Sunny, mild NE wind 5 to 10 mph. Really cold last night , let Buddy out around 9, Petey our spastic cat was in t(e cold on top of my chair coushion, all the rest of the cats were on the back porch huddled up. Petey stayed on my mind so at 12:30 I went out on porch, he was gone, was gonna throw a blanket in shower stall and let him spend the night. This morning no Petey, hope he’s holed up somewhere warm. I am frequently amazed by the cat's ability to survive difficult conditions.

Taking our two new dogs to the vet to get their shots up to date. The kids all love them, my wife loves them. Would still rather have a cat that would have a pipe with me. 😀

Its paid for, parts are cheap and readily available, insurance is cheap, it's fairly easy to work on,thelist goes on and on. Plus, working on my car gives me "me time." As aggravating as some things can be, it keeps me outta my own head. I've found that to be pretty important these days. “Our motor car is our supreme form of privacy when we are away from home.” “The car has become an article of dress without which we feel uncertain, unclad, and incomplete.” “The car gave to the democratic cavalier his horse and armor and haughty insolence in one package, transmogrifying the knight into a misguided missile.” “The car has become the carapace, the protective and aggressive shell, of urban and suburban man.” Quotes by Marshall McLuhan

Just had a lovely conversation with Mr. Schulte, an old pipe master who has retired to Florida and maintains a pipe restoration business. I have four Schulte’s pipes and they are great smokers! All shop pipes were made be two American manufacturers and finished by Mr. Schulte himself. Extra markings are a price code. I mentioned my interest in cleaning and restoration and he told me if I moved there he’d put me to work! WoW! Haven’t heard his name in years! He’s gotta be in his 90’s. He was Dunhill’s/ Lane ltd’s official pipe repairman in the USA. He’s also the licensed Peterson repair man.

Went out to tune up a retired barrel racer for a friend of mine. The mare stops heavy on her fore-end, doesn't like to turn to the right and doesn't flex at the pole. She's also fat and out-of-shape. Other than that, she's actually a pretty nice mare.
After some time spent in the round pen calmly reminding her of what Im sure she probably used to know some 14 years ago, I finally got her giving to the bit and flexing a little, she was turning nicely to the right, and was focusing and listening to what I was asking. I cant undo so many years of bad habits in an hour, but we made progress. Then we went out for a trail ride for about an hour as a reward, and she was really relaxed. I love seeing willing improvement in a horse from a pleasant teacher/student relationship. Some horses just want to fight you at the beginning, especially spoiled horses. However, with a horse, you cant teach anything through a fight. Everybody loses. In those instances, I patiently remove the fight, and then teach. I really appreciate it when we can calmly move right into learning.
A couple of bowls of "Old Dad" in my Joe Case bent apple during the process just made the whole thing even that much better.

Words well spoken, Dewayne you are living a rare life in modern culture, one that wears well with you and is I reckon, beneficial to everyone that comes into your orbit, whether they know it or not.... I am speaking about the recent engagement where you had to separate yourself from an employer because of what you deemed an unprofessional attitude towards stock that had no voice. Keep on, keeping on... I am headed to Vegas tomorrow, I am working with a rock star employee through the week...he needs supplies to conduct his work, dropping a loaded trailer in Armagosa for him, and parking at the casino for a week while I run Vegas/ Needles/ Kingman/ Havasu/ Bullhead city...this will be my last week of training then a week at home for hazwoper training in PHX. www.usfosha.com/osha-articles/hazwoper-training-who-needs-it/40hours classroom training, I wish it was online from home... After that, it is off to the races...I suspect I will be in New Mexico a lot.

There are much worse places to be than New Mexico. Of course they have some world class waste too. But I am sure the government handles the worst of it.

We are a two man crew in PHX, the other guy moans and groans about going to New Mexico...yeah, the days are long, but the stops are few and you are making a high hourly wage driving...stay in nice hotels, a generous perdiem account. When doing local runs in PHX, you are on a nut breaker schedule..glad for the tradeoff...if it ever gets too much for me, I have my pension rolling in, but I think all is well!

My friend in Jemez Springs NM had a 35 mile commute to Las Alamos through the ever changing most beautiful country on earth. Of course, you will probably spend most of your time in I-20

I am comforted to know my part of NM is not on the map. Hopefully, no one will come here, ever.

That appears to be a good old horse. She would be welcome here.

After talking to guys that have been in the business for quite a few years, there are rules that the rulers live by, and the rules that the ruled live by.

I still refer to I40 and that part of the country as Route 66 where one can glimpse parts of the old route as you hurry down a modern interstate. Every side road leads to a glimpse of days gone by and the mountains and canyons lead to adventure as well as melancholy. Hot espresso on the desk and the smell of a New York strip that has been cooking in the Crock Pot all night with veggies that needed used.

Well, I rode 310 miles with the club today and I think that's it. My back was killing me the whole time and I barely made it home. I think it's time to sell the trike and hang up the helmets.

Everything is bigger in Texas. You just cannot ride down the road a bit. You have to cross the state. I cannot relate to how big Houston is. I had a friend who lived on one of the lakes down there. I visited via Google Earth. I could not believe the sprawl. God bless all of you.

God bless all of you. The Houston amoeba has surrounded lakes Conroe and Houston. Lake Livingston is fairly normal and the lakes we rode today are almost in the wilderness by comparison. We actually rode all the way to Toledo Bend and ate lunch at Stump Restaurant in Brookeland, Population 300. I feel better after a Vicodin and a nap.

This was published February 24,1836.
Page 1 Send this to San Felipe by Express
night & day
To
The People of Texas
and
All Americans
Page 2 Commandancy of the Alamo—
Bejar, Fby. 24th 1836—
To the People of Texas &
all Americans in the world—
Fellow citizens & compatriots—
I am besieged, by a thousand
or more of the Mexicans under
Santa Anna—I have sustained
a continual Bombardment &
cannonade for 24 hours & have
not lost a man—The enemy
has demanded a surrender at
discretion, otherwise, the garrison
are to be put to the sword, if
the fort is taken—I have answered
the demand with a cannon
shot, & our flag still waves
proudly from the walls—I
shall never surrender or retreat
Then, I call on you in the
name of Liberty, of patriotism &
& every thing dear to the American
character, to come to our aid,
Page 3 with all dispatch—The enemy is
receiving reinforcements daily &
will no doubt increase to three or
four thousand in four or five days.
If this call is neglected, I am deter
mined to sustain myself as long as
possible & die like a soldier
who never forgets what is due to
his own honor & that of his
country—Victory or Death

Air temp at 24 degrees and dropping fast. Winds out of the north at 25 MPH. That wind has travelled 1,000 miles all the way down the Rocky Mountains from Canada to here. So, it is COLD! Forecast to drop to 0 degrees tonight. I guess there should be more wood in the stove.

Got my new drivers license and plates this morning. Was pretty nice out so played pick up sticks in the yard and cleaned out the work van. I don't have any work scheduled tomorrow and might get some work done in the shop.
