Izzy and Woody. I am at the Weber grilling beef. No more loyal and true blue canine pals I have known. Especially that Woody. Woody is my neighbor next door's dog but he is here much of the time. He is on point, immobile watching me and waiting for his share.

Looks like you have a great setup there. Definitely long distance rifle country. 25-06 and up. I am in 30-30 range here in the Piney Woods. Or rocks, bow and arrow, pocket knife, etc.

.25-06 was my choice for open country.

My wife brought her new puppy home last Friday. She's 9 weeks old. Eating like crazy. A very happy, frisky little puppy. She has my wife wrapped around her finger. Sleeps a lot since she's so young.

Such is the volatility of High Plains weather that today, after y’day’s -8F, it rose to 55° and for the first time in several days the dogs got a good workout. They were delighted! I rode in the Rhino (SxS UTV) and thus they got a lot more mileage than I can give them on foot. The main “work” was done in a 10-acre field right behind the house. I slipped the new Peterson Army in my jacket pocket when we left the house, and stopped a few times to shut the machine off and smoke a bit while they enjoyed themselves. Running behind them in the Rhino, watching them run in tandem, was pure pleasure. And stopping, relaxing, and smoking a bit while watching the fun— bliss is the only word to describe it.

Dogs are wonderful people...they never lie or steal from you...if they love you...you know it, if not...better back up, and quickly.

The Yorkie insisted on going out in the rain today, so I let her walk around the yard with me. Well, I walked, she ran. I really would feel bad chasing her in a ATV. 😳😏😉🤠

Heading to town tomorrow to check on an old, blind, and mostly deaf Blue Heeler Animal Control picked up. The previous human died. Dog is about 8 years old and needs a home. I lived with blind dogs before. Not much trouble for the cat population here. My four year old Australian Shepard female could use a friend, other than me. "Marbles".

One might be surprised how well a blind dog can do once he/she gets their bearings on the place.

So glad you took that sweet old dog in...old dogs are just great...they appreciate being taken in and loved like it was a young pup. Mine sleeps next to my pillow at night....wife says, must be your dog as she won't sleep next to my wife...had to laugh and watch what my answer was...I'm too old to sleep in the shed.

One might be surprised how well a blind dog can do once he/she gets their bearings on the place. How true. My Mags, a Boston Terrier, went both deaf and blind in her last year or two. She did fine as long as she felt in contact with me or Jack.

Something I’ve learned about dogs over the years. Males are interested in ‘process.’ Females could not care less. By ‘process” I mean work, preferably with tools. Plumbing, electrical work, woodwork, and just this morning, loading a pipe with a tamper. My 10YO came to the table where I was loading the Peterson Oom Paul with a tamper. Came as close as he could (his head is above table level) and stared with ears-cocked interest at what I was doing. He checked out the tamper when I put it down. This kind of thing has happened over and over again with my males. Never with a single female. This is based on six males and seven females. There’s an important insight there, if I could only figger out what it is...

A couple more steps closer to adopting "Marbles" the blind dog. Spent about 4 minute with him in his day kennel. He is nervous and confused. Looks to me as though has not been totally blind for long. Next week, I bring my dog into town to meet him and see if they are compatible. Paper work finished, fees paid. Still more to the process after that and then I can bring him home. THe process of adoption is slow and cumbersome. At least I was charged a discount on the fees since I am old and so is the dog. No break for being blind. LOL!

I miss typed about Marbles. We spent 45 minutes, not 4 minutes, together in his day kennel. He is stressed by all the noises at the dog shelter- barking, howling, etc. He bumped into me a few times. He will be much better off at place as it is very quiet. I can see a good dog there who needs a home.
