Lunch was a bowl of my bean and pork soup followed by home baked bread and Molinari Calabrese Salami. First time I have had it, peppery. Kind of in between salami and pepperoni.

My got together and took me to Golden Corral for my birthday. So I had a bit of everything. Mostly the pot roast and the rolls I have heard that Golden Corral had been hit pretty hard because of Covid. That is pretty tough when an unforeseen circumstance can affect a business model so dramatically. I will stop by one this week as a small way of chipping in.

I think we helped their bottom line pretty good today 😂🙂😁

That is great. It is a long time since I have been there, but they are a great company. Active duty and retirees get the military discount, and they eat free on Veterans Day.

My kids got together and took me to Golden Corral for my birthday. So I had a bit of everything. Mostly the pot roast and the rolls I have kind of a funny story about Golden Corral. BTW, Happy Birthday, Dewayne! Around 2009, life for me was pretty tough. I was scrapping along selling firewood, scrap metal and anything else I could do out here in rural NM. The economy had pretty much collapsed. Any way, one winter day, me and a friend, put together a load of about 20,000 pounds of scrap iron and steel to haul to the big yard 135 miles north in Pueblo CO. They were paying about $145 per ton for heavy gauge steel and $120 for lighter weight. we had overloaded a trailer and hitched it to my 1999 Ford F-250, 7.3 liter PSD. Fortunately, I had replaced the leaf springs all around with more substantial leaves. To get to Pueblo meant crossing La Vida Pass, about 10,000 feet. In Winter that can be a challenge especially when the roads are snowy and icey. We made it. Went to the yard, Got paid and had some money in our pockets for a change. So, the next step was something to eat. My friend, Kirk Fishburn, was about the same age as me but thin as a bean pole and hungry as a badger with a tooth ache. He wanted to go to Golden Corral where he figured on breaking them. I think he could to. So, we started searching for the G.C. in Pueblo. We had an address from a phone book. Neither of us knew anything about Pueblo CO. I remember stopping at a local bank to ask if they knew where this street was. Gas stations by then were just a pay hut with a cashier who knows nothing and speaks little English. We covered that town pretty well. Driving around and around with that trailer bouncing along behind us. I stopped a Pueblo Police Car and asked the officer if he knew where the street was. He did. Although highly suspicious, he gave us directions and did not detain us. If anyone appeared to be "The Usual Suspects" it was the grubby pair of us in that truck and trailer. Finally, we spotted the place and it was about time for early supper. What Kirk did to their Hot Line, I can only smile and remember. That guy must have a hollow leg or two hollow legs. Tall skinny guy of Scottish descent. I never seen anyone put away that volume of food. He was neat and tidy just a volume consumer. Compared to him, I was a forest fairy eater. After I finished a normal sized dinner for a working man, Kirk attacked the Desert Department, again with devastating results. I expected a visit to our table from the manager inviting us to leave. We are talking wholesale consumption. Finally, we finished. Kirk staggered out to the truck. He slept the entire trip of 135 miles home. My admiration for Golden Corral is boundless. The food may not be the most delicious ever, but they sure do feed the hungry with no complaints I am aware of.

A bowl of my bean soup with a can of tuna packed in olive oil on bread.
Tonight I will pound some Top Round steaks and wrap them around nice looking uncured sausage, my version of rouladen. Might make a mushroom gravy.
