I think they were invented in Scandinavia.
I am definitely putting a bug in the boss’s ear when they spec out the new trucks.
They are the ones preaching safety, avoiding danger, etc….throwing chains on the side of an icy road fits both problems.

Saw the town's surgeon for a consultation regarding the colonoscopy I should have had before now. Not looking good for me. Risk factors are high. Borderline as to whether or no the hospital will do this for me. I learned they do not have an Anesthesiologist on the hospital staff. Just a Nurse Anesthetist, what ever that is. With my various conditions, I may be over their risk limit. I need several tests and then they will decide. This is kind of a bummer because I am having some real problems with the plumbing. Earliest date is the last day of January 2022. If I start over with a clinic in Santa Fe now, it would be Spring at the earliest. Kind of disappointing.

Pretty sure a nurse anesthetist is who did my anesthesia. She wasn't an M.D., anyway. Never thought I'd say this, but I hope you can get a colonoscopy.

Brother, you need to do what you know you have to for your health. I would not go under with a Nurse Anesthetist. Or, as Hawkeye called it, an amateur gas passer.

The office of an Oral Surgeon for the removal of four impacted "Wisdom Teeth". He had a Nurse assisting with the anesthesia. It might have been sodium pentothal. He had to bang on me with hammer and bone chisel and I was out cold for it all, thankfully. I am not so worried about the colonoscopy procedure as it is not deep anesthesia I am told. The risky part is if there is a complication requiring opening the abdomen. That requires deep anesthesia and close supervision for an apnea patient. I would prefer a real MD "passing the gas" in the room.

Not really my cup of tea. 😱😰🥵😵

Another sunny and warm day in NE Texas. No cold weather until next year. I see that Donner pass got a record 16 feet of snow in December. Hoping that our NorCal members don't have to turn to cannibalism.

Above the flood line below the snow line. Others are working there tail off clearing trees from thier driveways like my brother. Lucky for him he is a logger and still has an old Clark 667 skidder parked in the front yard to use and an old Cat 966C others do not have those tools to use still took him and my nephew all day to clear 1/3 of a mile road into thier place. Highway 299 closed both directions for a while. No power no phone

A calm day up in New Hampshire. My brother and his family came up from Sarasota for the holidays. First time my niece and nephew have seen snow. Lots of activity around the house. They headed up to the mountains for some skiing lessons for a few days, but will be back at the end of the week. House is quite quiet now.

The wife and I took a trip to Office Max today, and rewarded ourselves with a new office chair. The old one bit the dust back in October, and we've been "makin-do" with an extra dining room chair;what a P.I.T.A. We sprung for a real nice one...strong enough for big folks, plush, and really nice looking. Feels good to do something nice for great people.

Mine is shedding tiny bits of its vinyl or pleather or whatever it is cover fairly badly.

Out mending the fence. Goats and sheep have broken through and are raiding my neighbor's alfalfa bales. Cold work, 13 degrees with the wind chill. Could be worse, though.
Now warming with a glass of Paddy's Irish Whiskey, neat.

Woke up in craptown named Monticello Utah… the best dining I could find last night was Subway… better than the roller grill I reckon.
Headed out to see a patient near Dove Valley, snow coming down hard with Ice, fortunately I serviced a couple patients on my first day that were scheduled for day two. That paid off because I slept a bit later…when I chained up, I needed the bungee cords and a mom and pop feed shop was open!
After taking care of the first patient, I took the advice of the Garmin to head to Mancos Colorado…. Ended up on a couple highways designated as #3 for snow removal. It was just below an ants eyelash from total whiteout, I kept it between the snow stakes.
After #1and 2 patient were serviced, the chains stayed on for patient 3… left her house, got on the road to Cortez and the road was clean… every single driveway to pull off and no shoulder for 17 miles.
I heard one unwinding, the second one within a mile.
At least there is another bag of chains in the box…hated losing them rubber snubbers/ bungees, they were the best I saw in years.
In Gallup NM at Applebees, Long Island Iced tea, Ribeye with loaded mashed potatoes, buttered green beans.
All I have to do tomorrow is drive home… 4 days off, two of them paid.

I have V-Bar chains for my old Land Cruiser and for my 4 WD tractor.
They are hard on pavement but sure work well on ice and snow.

I was all right running without chains, but taking the 30 minutes or so to install, I could tell the difference. I had some promptings of the spirit when I hit Dove valley… the wide shoulders were well plowed and it was a convenient and safe place to chain up. Several over the road guys drove by me…later I saw them chaining up under sketchy circumstances. All of us guys chaining in Dove valley were around my age. Life has a way of informing you. Coming back into Gallup, I picked up $200 of fireworks for New Years that are unavailable in Arizona. Big booming night at the hacienda on Friday.

My day was less eventful than Charlie's, but eventful. I fixed a problem created by some folks now on vacation, that customers were calling and complaining about. And I solved a seemingly insuperable problem that has been blocking us from deploying a new product for more than a week; one that management was really putting the hammer down on getting deployed. It was a stressful but satisfying day.
