June 3rd. I am still resting from another round of wrestling with a weedeater but managed a nice bowl of crooked lane in the savinelli non pariel. That pipe is built for oreintal blends apparently. It really lifts the delicate flavors and keeps trying even at the bottom of a bowl which as we all know is where a blend shines or sours. While crooked lane does sour a bit in the other pipes I have tried, the savi non P seems to have a secret super power.... Anyhoo, my corncob experiment was mixed. I found the performance of known tobaccos in a cob to be "okay" I dont really notice any extra overtones or sweetness. I attribute the good smoke to the water absorption primarily. so while the hot end did fine, the stem is a cheap plastic on the order of a firm drinking straw. I quickly clenched two big dents on the underside and one big dent on top. so that is about the cost of a cigar for four smokes. to be fair, I will use it up (as they are intended to be) and call the experiment over. I can already summate that the correct cigar will allow a nice smoke while working and be cheaper than a low cost cob. 14$cob vs 6$ cigar. the rest of the details about cobs firmly place them in the "party" category. want a nice smoke for two days at the lake? get a cob. who cares if you drop it?. Or in the event a non smoker wants to try a bowl what better pipe for the uninitiated? fill and fire! but for work, and saving my old GBD from further damage, I am going with a cheaper cigar. have a great day!

If its the stem you don't like, you could always invest in a "forever stem" from Vermont Freehand. Or, get more plastic stems from Missouri Meerschaum for 80 cents a piece. I've found that corncobs outperform briars when smoking a burley-forward blend, like Haunted Bookshop or Pegasus.
