Happy Independence Day, all. Today, Haunted Bookshop, 3 Friars, Six Pence, Uni Flake and Fillmore in a couple of cobs. Right now, after dinner smoke of Haunted Bookshop. Also, snuck in a cigar this afternoon.

Did you just crack a Doctor Who joke? And you called me a nerd?🤪 Guilty. Professor S. 's avatar made me do it. I've only seen the new series once, though. Despite the better acting & special effects, I still vastly prefer the original series. The whole family pretty much gave up on the new series during Peter Capaldi's time. As brilliantly as John Simm played the role of The Master, Roger Delgado and Anthony Ainley (whom I had the pleasure of meeting at the 1983 Chicago ComiCon) were still the best.

I consider this another day seized. After the daily devotions and some P&W at home, it was breakfast/brunch in bed for the princesses, then out to the grill. As it turns out, the boys and their SO's didn't come over, so we now have a rack and a half of pork ribs, 4 Ribeye steaks, and 8 ears of grilled corn for leftovers. After lunch, it was stacking a couple hundred landscaping blocks for future use and stacking firewood against next winter. Now it's a pair of Smithwicks and 'Scholars Blend' in this beautiful Calabrisi I found on eBay. It has an ebonite stem, and the bowl is full-sized, so I can get a good, long smoke out of it. If you'd like me to come over and help, I'm available. I'll even call you "pops." You're welcome any time. I don't need much of an excuse to fire up the grill. Be warned, though, chores around here are usually prefaced by a brief pep talk about how hard work builds character

Having a great smoke from a nameless bag of leftovers that fell together like magic to become a cool ,slow burning, semi-sweet aromatic. The pipe is a big ole handmade freehand from Kaywoodie, and bottled water is the chaser.

Had some Patriot Flake in a MM Country Gentleman, followed by Fusilier's Ration in a Dunhill prince. Seems thematically in keeping with the holiday.

There was a certain charm to the original. Cheesy, but charming. I picked up the series on PBS around the time of the first Master switch-- Pertwee era,--when I was a wee lass.

More of the excellent MB Plumcake in a White Spot Bruyere 4101. I find this tobacco to have a quite unique taste. I'm not sure if it's the addition of the Jamaica rum or the fact that it has a touch of Syrian Latakia, or both but I cannot find any equivalent besides The Solent Mixture from MB which also contains rum and Syrian Latakia (the older production, in any case).

I ran a pipe cleaner through the Kaywoodie freehand and filled it with Yorktown, and the combo really shines with my coffee. A thing like this could become a habit!

hope all had a great weekend & holiday. Lost cause again with wifie's health issues. In from full walks after watering, no-band 5x50 for company. After the Ed is fed, gifted Byzantium in SerJac Rowlette "scoop" (finally dried enuf) & continue with the papers. Mixed bag of in/outside work ahead.
72, overcast, headed for 89 & humid eventually

Orion's Arrow, C&D, in a Legend. Haven’t tried that one yet. What’s it like Emily? It's good. I have had some for a while, but just recently tried it again and reach for it often now. Virginia forward with moderate perique character and Turkish that plays well with the Virginia. Recommended.

July 5th, Our 3 day rideapalooza ended with breakfast in sullivan mo. mimis cafe, if your ever there. Right now we are tucked inside avoiding the hot humid day. did manage a bowl of C&D burley #3. it is the next tester blend and so far it is nice. Burlys seem to survive hot weather better than my lighter blends. Burly #1 #2 were okay but not on an immediate reorder list and #1 would be the pick. #2 just never developed a good flavor. so later will be a second burly#3 in most likely the GBD. that pipe is a workhorse anyhoo, hope alls well and have a great week!

Had some Russ Ouellette's Fireworks in my Peterson Donegal Canadian That sounds dangerous. Careful! C&D Oriental Silk in a MM something small. Meatloaf and taters are in the oven and I will steam some spinach when it's ready. Comfort food!

Heinrich’s Golden Sliced in my Don Warren blasted Pickaxe. Ooo! That's nice! My compliments to Don. I didn’t know it at the time, but Don told me the next time I saw him that I literally bought this pipe just a few minutes after he had put it on his Etsy site. Speaking of Don, I should check with him to see if he's going to make the trek to Columbus next month. He usually only comes East to go to the Chicago Show, but with Columbus being the first pipe show in a long time, I’m expecting more people than usual to show up.

C&D Warped: The Red Hunt in a MM. Second bowl of the day, third overall, of a tin opened last night. I like it a lot so far, but burns a little hot, so need to slow it down.
