Thanks. I don’t photograph ‘em; I shoots ‘em. Mostly, I leave them be. So far, they have never come into my area. I meet them on ditch walking and just step around them. We do not have Atrox here, just Viridis and they seem docile if undisturbed.

We do not have Atrox here, just Viridis and they seem docile if undisturbed. Admirable, and generally a good and responsible position. I can’t do that with two energetic birddogs bouncing all over the place. One of them (Jack) is almost deaf now and is a nose-down trailer, particularly vulnerable. There’s nowhere on the place I can safely just “leave them alone.”

No rattlers around here. Copperheads and water moccasins, yes. The latter are particularly aggressive.

My dad told about him and childhood friends doing a brisk abandon ship when a mocassin dropped off a limb into his jonboat on the Saline.

Never had one drop into the jonboat, but have definitely had them make a beeline directly at our boat because they didn't like the way we looked, I guess. Had to shoo them away with an oar. No fear in them things.

I've never seen a dog turn down cheese, cat either, it's just another form of milk to them I guess.

No fear in them things. When I was a small child we had a lakeside house on Cross Lake near Shreveport. It had a wooden dock that ran out into the lake for a good long distance. On both sides were cypress knees and old waterlogged stumps. At dusk you could stand on the dock and watch snakes, including cottonmouths, curl up onto the stumps and knees. When I would go to bed I would pull my legs up into an exaggerated fetal position— just in case one of them decided to nap under my covers down at the foot of the bed. That fear of snakes has stayed with me.

Yep, living where I live you get a schooling of not digging around with your hands in old barns, or where ever always have a hoe or shovel , once I was fishing in the marsh as a kid, went to open a hole in the water Lilys to put my line in a water moccasin struck at me barely missing me, taught me a big lesson.

A water moccasin is one snake that I won't hesitate to kill. I hate those nasty bastards.

Do most dogs love cheese, Buddy loves cheese, Lacy will eat anything we eat. She is extremely fond of cheese. Never saw a dog (or person) that didn't like cheese.

Not a lot of venomous snakes in central Illinois. There are some, but the only place I've been, where they were a concern, was on various canoe trips. Saw a few cottonmouths in southern Illinois and maybe some right here in central Illinois on the Sangamon River. Saw some snakes in the water, but didn't get a good look at them. Here in Illinois most venomous snakes are all but extinct. There is a place not far from me, where a "swamp rattler" is supposed to still exist. Very rare, almost extinct. It's the Eastern Massasauga (Swamp Rattlesnake) (Sistrurus catenatus). news.wttw.com/2016/10/04/venomous-illinois-rattlesnake-gets-federal-protection

Last two pictures of Duke. First one hearing my truck pull up: Then, as I walked to the door he acted like the hound from hell...every single day, as I entered, he would grab his Nylabone prance around as if to say "I have things covered" he would drop it at my feet and he would wait for his greeting. Lay down for a few minutes and watch me.... Then he would look to me..."are the treats coming?" then as soon as I entered the kitchen, he would wait by the cupboard and as much to say, "I am ready for my dog biscuit" Minnie the moocher. Past the sorrow, he was great dog, a celebration of the time he had with me, it was good times! The American Bulldog is an exceptional breed, he represented it well!

“DIBBS ON FLOOR STUFF!” Eli’s rule is “If it falls on the floor it’s MINE!” I noticed him working on a pinkish thingie and asked him to “Bring it!” He did and it was a text marker— mostly used up. He wasn’t too unhappy that I binned it and all the pieces I could find. Said it didn’t taste all that good anyway.

Persephone (Percy) sure has came a long way. When I got her I said she was going to be my smoking buddy, and I was right. When she sees me grabbing a pipe she grabs a tennis ball and waits by the door for me. She was less than 2 lbs and on her death bed when I went and picked her up. I can never say it enough, but when we met, the 2 of us literally saved eachother. I'm so thankful for this furry P.I.T.A.

Hahaha! Love it! It was break time. After nearly an hour of "fetch" I figured it was time for her to cool down a bit. She'll go until I make her stop.
My plan worked, shes at my feet snoring.

I have heard that a Shar Pei with a Sharpie… things can get nasty.
