Reviving the dog thread! Suki. She is a mischievous little gremlin. We love this girl. Looks just like our Sandy when she was two or three...at five she began to fill out, and we put her on " FAT DOG " food to slim her down. They are way too smart, and mine never bark unless something is wrong, otherwise she tries her best to talk. They definitely are not barkers. Suki barks rarely. She does do the classic Sheba scream when she really wants something, but even that is pretty rare. She is very smart, has a ton of personality and is extremely loving and affectionate to all of the family. Some of her hi-jinks will have me laughing until I am in tears.

Sandy's life partner is a ten-year-old beagle, who lost his sight at five, and she has taken to sleeping almost as much as he doses. She guides him around when he forgets the patterns he worked out to navigate the house and yard...she evens sets off the Sheba scream alarm when his water bowl gets too low. As a puppy, she was more like a cat than a dog, no cuddles or loving like you expect from a pup, only coming around when she wanted something...only in the last few years has she learned the value of a good backrub or a pat on the head, but she loves to be brushed, and O.M.G. the hair !!!

If there’s anything better than dogs afield in autumn I don’t know what it is.

Found out last night that my sister's dog was hit and killed by a car. I know that would devastate me and feel horrible for them. 😒

Sorry to hear about that, Darin.
Always a bummer when I see a dog that has gotten loose, and they are always so skittish, making it nearly impossible to round them up.

Big problem with stray dogs around here, attacking people, chasing horses and killing chickens and goats. Everyone is afraid to shoot them because they don't want to piss off the neighbors. I personally love dogs, and I don't let mine run wild. Sometimes they just get out and the unfortunate happens. I ran over a neighbor's dog once, it ran under the back wheels so fast I couldn't do anything about it. I've also rescued a couple that had been hit by cars.

My "baby" sleeps with her head on my pillow and back against me. She is the child I never had. We have large hawks and owls so when she goes out it is on a leash only...even in my fenced yard...couldn't stand to think of her as a meal for some fowl. Just another heart breaker.

Long time ago was working turnaround, neighbor died, came in about 7, quick shower went to furneal home, got home after 10 pm, was in wife’s van, 2 big dogs growling at van, wife said these are the dogs that have been terrorizing the block, kids run in house when bus drops them off, I try to open door, dog jumps on door growling , I reach in the center console and pick up my 45, tell wife get in the back, go to side door open it quickly and almost touch the dog on the side, blasted him about 4 or 5 feet, other dog runs away, very early morning deputy comes wants to arrest me for discharging firearm in subdivision, he’s a hard arse didn’t listen to my explanation, wife was a hairdresser and the Sherrifs Commanders wife was my wife’s customer, called him, explained the situation, he asked for the deputy, I could hear him rip the man up. They took the dog and tested for rabies, also the other dog, never knew who the dogs were for.

I hear you guys, there is certainly the other side of the coin with dogs....there are Benji's and there are Cujo's.
I am out on the reservation, and as I said before...the dogs often get as much care as the wild birds do...I am not suppose to deliver to a patient that does not have the dogs secured, but I have looked the other way. I have had times where if it not for my boots, blood would have been drawn...that is where I draw the line and tell the patient that deliveries will cease if the situation does not change. One patient's solution is the BB gun.
The little dogs seem to be the meanest...they are the first to attempt to bite, and any defense on my part triggers the gang.
Pick your stuff up at the chapter house (tribal community center) and mule it in yourself...had to make that call, and don't mind doing so.

I think my bon fides as a dog-lover are pretty well established. But when I worked on a sheep ranch as a kid I shot wild dogs, reluctantly, but it had to be done. A pack of ferrel dogs can do horrible things to lambs and ewes. Coyotes have nothing on them. I would think, “Too bad they didn’t have better owners.” They never had collars, so maybe they didn’t even have owners. Almost all of them were scruffy in the extreme. Nevertheless, shooting a dog was not something I ever wanted to do.

Dog attacking livestock here will get at least one bullet and perhaps more. Stray dog attacking me usually gets the business end of a D-Handle shovel. An axe if Italian Mastiff. My former neighbor! Dog usually is happy to see me so blood does not spill often. Some dogs, including my Aussie Girl, cannot leave moving cars alone and are subject to death by car. I am a nut about keeping her in the front yard and the gate closed.

Our other dog, Bailey. She is pure mutt, a rescue that was abandoned along the interstate. We got her from an adoption/rescue outfit when she was maybe a year old. She is now almost eight. A sweet girl who still looks like a puppy.

My caregiver today. Had a tooth extracted today and an implant put in. Suki stayed curled up with me for several hours, she knows I am “hurt” and is extra sweet right now. She did get a little of my Mac n cheese.😉

The face Eli makes when he knows I am finishing up a plate of bacon & eggs and that it will soon be “available”… (Jack in the wings.) He's a handsome fellow. It's funny how many expressions dogs have. It takes a while to get to know them. Maybe it's how long it takes them to see what manipulates us best. Lacy rarely wastes time with me as mom is so easy.

I know that look. I've been making fudge. A Christmas tradition in my house. I make a peanutbutter fudge that my grandfather and father made - and maybe my great-grandfather too. Who knows, maybe the recipe came from Germany with my family in 1850. Our dog, Tiffany, loves peanutbutter - so she followed me all over the kitchen all day hoping for a small piece. She's nuts over it - but, of course, she only gets tiny bits. I'm sure it's not something a dog should eat much of. Later that evening we realized she knew the word "peanutbutter". Everytime I'd say "peanutbutter", her head would snap around and look at me

Tiffany gave us a scare yesterday. She went to the vet for her annual shots. One needle shot and 1 nasal spray for Bordetella. When she got home, she was extremely hyper, running and panting - then went to her cage and layed down. It was then that we realized that the area around her eyes was swelled and bright pink - and her nose was swelled too. So we rushed her back to the vet - 25 miles away. They gave her a couple of shots and kept her under observation for a couple hours. She looked terrible last night, but today she's back to her old self. She's usually dark brown around her eyes.

Spent a few hours at a pipe club members house, he has a couple German short haired pointers that are beautiful, and a housedog that is not a hunter like tem two. All three beautiful dogs, I sure miss "Duke". I suppose we will add a canine to the household soon.

I'm sorry that I never got a chance to adopt a retired greyhound. They were lovely, sweet dogs and cheap at the time.
