Thanks, Gentle as a Lamb around the grandcritters, but with that chest he sounded like the hound from hell when someone knocked on the door. It really helped when the solar panel salesmen came around...told them I could not talk, it was feeding time for Duke.

Terriers aren't famous for backing down. She was about 6 inches from one's nose a couple of weeks ago, barking her head off. Steer didn't even blink.

I’ve posted this before, but came upon it again this morning and thought it was worth a rematch. Emma, working. She’s been gone since 2016.

The boys have always been affable soft-touches. Emma was a hardcase, from the get-go. When hunting she HUNTED and brooked no interference or interruption. She had contempt for slackers AND for me if I missed a bird. She worked hard, disdained rest periods, and never wanted to quit. I miss her but, lordy, could she tire me out!

It looks like we are getting a pound hound, “Curly” has not had a favorable life for a 4 legged critter, but the wife loves him…. Full grown Shar Pei mix, he needs a medical procedure done for his one eye… hope that it doesn’t run too expensive.

imgur.com/a/Ef6mtASNot sure if the pic shows it, but he has a red meaty bulbous growth on the inside corner of one eye. A pretty routine fix, but left untreated it could leave him blind. He is estimated to be about a year old.

He has been in the shelter with 250 dogs, the barking is nonstop, he has been there for two months and the handler said he is stressed by it all.
He needs a bath… big time.😉

He's an adorable looking pup. Yeah, I helped out for a little while in the AHS shelter here. The kennel areas stressed me out after just a few minutes. I bet once you get Curly home and he gets some peace and quiet (and some decent sleep!), he'll be a new man.

We had to let this girl go today. She was 13, and developed mast cell tumors. Operating would be both expensive and risky with a low survival rate. We chose to end her suffering, but she will be missed. Yet another in a growing line of rescues we've had the privilege to be responsible for. I chose the old pic because it's how I want to remember her.

The 5 dogs we've had since we got married have all lived to that age except for the one who was too mean to die. He lived to 19 miserable years.

Curly has been at the pound since March, so the wife held off until I got home today to go get him with her…No paying up front and putting him on hold.
Yesterday he was adopted by someone else…. my wife had gone three days in a row to familiarize him to her.
She was really bummed, that’s the way it goes, some things just aren’t meant to be.

That sucks. My wife found our second Yorkie at a pound in Houston. I didn't want another dog at the time, but I told her to go ahead. She got there at 5am the day he was up for adoption. He was 6 years old and covered in mud. He lived with us for 13 years, snapping at me every time I got in the bed. I pick out the dogs now.

A man and his dog were walking along a road A man and his dog were walking along a road. The man was enjoying the scenery, when it suddenly occurred to him that he was dead. He remembered dying, and that the dog walking beside him had been dead for years. He wondered where the road was leading them.. After a while, they came to a high, white stone wall along one side of the road. It looked like fine marble. At the top of a long hill, it was broken by a tall arch that glowed in the sunlight. When he was standing before it he saw a magnificent gate in the arch that looked like mother-of-pearl, and the street that led to the gate looked like pure gold. He and the dog walked toward the gate, and as he got closer, he saw a man at a desk to one side. When he was close enough, he called out, 'Excuse me, where are we?' 'This is Heaven, sir,' the man answered. Would you happen to have some water?' the man asked. Of course, sir. Come right in, and I'll have some ice water brought right up'.The man gestured, and the gate began to open. 'Can my friend,' gesturing toward his dog, 'come in, too?' the traveller asked. 'I'm sorry, sir, but we don't accept pets.' The man thought a moment and then turned back toward the road and continued the way he had been going with his dog. After another long walk, and at the top of another long hill, he came to a dirt road leading through a farm gate that looked as if it had never been closed. There was no fence. As he approached the gate, he saw a man inside, leaning against a tree and reading a book. 'Excuse me!' he called to the man. 'Do you have any water?' 'Yeah, sure, there's a pump over there, come on in..' 'How about my friend here?' the traveller gestured to the dog. There should be a bowl by the pump.' They went through the gate, and sure enough, there was an old-fashioned hand pump with a bowl beside it. The traveller filled the water bowl and took a long drink himself, then he gave some to the dog. When they were full, he and the dog walked back toward the man who was standing by the tree. 'What do you call this place?' the traveller asked. This is Heaven,' he answered. 'Well, that's confusing,' the traveller said. 'The man down the road said that was Heaven, too.' 'Oh, you mean the place with the gold street and pearly gates? Nope. That's hell.' 'Doesn't it make you mad for them to use your name like that?' 'No, we're just happy that they screen out the folks who would leave their best friends behind.'
