Brought Buddy in, road crew spreading a fine white powder and North wind blowing it right to us, DONT believe he should breathe this. Good idea, probably lime. I usually have a few sacks on hand. You never know when it might be needed.

Ten years ago I got this dog that wove her way deep into my heart. She is a social one and wants to be around people. After I first got her as a nameless puppy, the video link shows why she ended up with the name Liberty.

Shes growing like crazy!! She's lucky she's cute because she sure can be annoying. I just got Percy out of her "puppy phase" and wasn't ready to start again Resisting her is simply impossible.

The psychology of dogs is endlessly fascinating. They are the absolute masters of inductive reasoning. So much better at it than humans! They know that if I put on a hat I am going somewhere and they rush to the door to "go with." Same if I put on certain clothes or grab the truck keys off the key rack. If Eli sees me putting a DVD disk into the return envelope he knows I am going to the mailbox and he's the first to the door to make sure he can go along. I'm sure that the roots of this finely-honed skill goes way, way back and relates directly to their survival— and thriving. They needed to learn the signs of danger, and learn it quickly so that they could react appropriately. Now they use that skill to manage and manipulate us. And they do it so well!

But they DO work! Just as they did 30,000 years ago, they devote themselves to keeping us safe. (After all— we're their meal tickets, plus we scratch their ears and tell 'em how good they are...)

Buddy is from the Double Ought, Wright line, big Catahoulas noted for their bravery and tracking wind or land. They usually bond with one person,he’s bonded with me but slowly easing to wife, sleeps on her side of the bed, that’s good because I’ll probably pass before her. My wife is a retired hairdresser, been cutting my hair for 55 years, for whatever reason Buddy has never seen her cut my hair, when she threw the cape over me he stood up, didn’t growl so I talked to him, he didn’t ease up until he saw she wasn’t hurting me and then he wouldn’t leave her alone. She put him outside and then he watched her thru the French doors until she finished. Mans Best Friend, yep that’s right.

Dogs look at me and know that I'm a dog person. Even growling pit bulls take one look at me and start licking my hands.

My lil wiggletail has me figured out just right...knows how to win my heart with a small yip...sleeps on my head or next to my face...lets me bathe her and then runs around the bed rubbing her face on my side of the bed. Getting her sweet scent on everything. ![]()

I'm in the house with one familiar chihuahua and 2 strange chihuahuas. And a cat. Cat ignores me which is fine. The cat I rescued ran off when they moved. Anyway, the 2 strange chihuahuas have been barking and howling since we got here. Everyone left to go to the funeral home for the viewing and we aren't going till later, so after the indulgent folks left, I found out that the 2 noisy ones had never been firmly instructed to shut the F up. I'm good at training dogs. 😉🤠

Dogs know who is right and who is not.
WHen I raised goats for dairy and meat, I had Buck goat scent on my pants most of the time. Dogs were in Heaven sniffing me. I reminded people of aged goat cheese.

We may have a new family member here. Our step-daughter rescued a 5 week old Great Dane that the breeder was going to put down because it's the runt and deaf.

We're not sure yet about raising a moose but will, at least, foster him. I know us though and imagine attachment will happen quickly. 😉

For a project I'm diddlying with I did some research. A chihuahua will cost his owner about $500 a year, assuming no major medical issues. A 130-pound dane will cost about $1800, with the same assumption. The chihuahua may live about 15 years, so $7,500. The dane about 10 years (at most) and $18,000.

I've always had large breeds and, usually, three at a time. While I can't imagine the total money spent, I'd pay double the amount to do it all again! 🙂

Of course, it's not about the money. Or shouldn't be. Not you, obviously, but some would-be dog owners go into getting a dog without thinking about the commitment they are making. Sometimes this works to the detriment of the dog's well-being, or even his life. I wish you well with the new lucky-pup. Have you named him yet?

I definitely agree that too many people get dogs on a whim without knowing or committing to the full responsibilities. That's how we ended up with all our dogs as they were all rescues from such miscreants.
No names yet but have a few in mind.

I've posted this before, but my mother was crazy animal lady, and we had all kinds of pets, all strays. The most dogs we ever had at one time was twenty seven. One of them had just had puppies and I counted. All inside, all on the couch, all human food if they asked etc.
Mom would say the reason she treated the dogs better than the kids was because the dogs treated her better than the kids.
Twenty seven is too many dogs. I don't want to know what we spent on pets growing up.

Have pretty much always had chihuahuas (while being married) now we have our rescue yorkie...question is who rescued whom? She is the love of our lives...cute in every way...whines when she can't find me (in the bathroom) have to leave the door open for her to find me....kills any unsuspecting roach that is near by (me not her).
