Its a nice one, and incredibly hard to find. Darin has all the goodies. More often than not, they're sparkling too. Many moons ago he sent me some aged Dorchester... thats when I switched to mainly Virginia's. He ruined me (or spoiled me)

Somebody remind me what distinguishes a Lumberman from a Canadian. The saddle stem?

I'm just going by the Lovats I've seen. They all seem to have similar proportions that many Liverpools (and Canadians) don't resemble. It's entirely possible I just haven't seen enough Lovats.

Many of the Canadians, Lumbermen and Liverpools I've seen are fairly large. But, in my small collection, I have a Savinelli Canadian and Lumberman that are an average size. I also have a Grabow Lovat that a bit smaller than average. I wasn't considering the overall size of the pipe in interpreting where they fall on the shape chart.

I'm talking more about the height/length ratio than size. Lovats usually seem to be pretty proportional. Canadians/Liverpools typically are much longer than tall.
You mentioned Dunhill's definition. What's their definition?

I was just referring to their charts. And the oval shank/tapered stem = Canadian, oval shank/saddle stem = Lumberman, round shank/saddle stem = Lovat and round shank/tapered stem = Liverpool. I wasn't aware that proportions also factor in. It gets pretty convoluted, Dunhill seemed to be the most standardized maker. So, I guess I have to retract my earlier assessment. I don't even try to understand how every tapered bowl in Italy can get classified as a Dublin.

Beyond the most basically recognizable shapes, I leave it to others to make a determination.
