That album was a real piece of work. Does that mean that you like it, or...? Yes. I just meant it sounded like nothing else at the time. Obvious influences from punk and its ancestors, but these were not punk songs, lyrically or musically.

Found a pair of Bose Wave radio/CD players in one of the sealed up boxes...damn Bose has some great sound for a small radio. And expensive too. This was in your brother's stuff? Yup, he had 2 of them...1 for the living room and 1 for the bedroom...which was close enough that if he turned up the volume he could have heard in either room...not him. Livin large!

Never! Patti Smith forever! Horses! Heh. I was just being difficult. At least I didn't raise you a Kate Smith.

This is the opening track of the liturgy, all of which is just stunning:
Unfortunately, it's not available on YT or streaming anywhere. Gotta buy it (which I did a few years ago).

I think that was the only LP my grandma possessed up on the Continental divide in Colorado. I listened to it a bunch growing up.

Not Kate Smith.
Lined up for kitchen time is Renaissance Prologue and Ashes are Burning. "Kiev" seemed appropriate for some reason.

Fatha Hines knew how to party. Even in a bad hairpiece.

Carbon Leaf!!! Livestream on Mandolin at 8pm EST. I've got the whole house wired up and we're stoked. We haven’t seen 'em in person since about 2015, but the pandemic livestreams are way cool. Happy geeky fangirls here. "Spread the word. Tell no one."

The head cheese thread made me want to listen to this record, because free association happens when I'm not vigilant.

King Crimson didn't grab me right away. As much as I like proggy stuff, they're still not my favorite. I can enjoy them now, but I rarely reach for them.

Three of a Perfect Pair is about the only song of theirs I can stand. I don't even care for their music as the Crimson Jazz Trio

A few days ago I heard Ravel's Pavane pour une enfante défunte on our local classical station, and was reminded that the composer originally wrote it for piano. I find sometimes it's easier to hear how a piece is constructed, and get a sense of how it works, in a piano version, and as a bonus this video lets you see the score as it's played.

One of my favorite recordings of the orchestral version--Seiji Ozawa (I'm old enough, by the way, to remember the original LP releases of his collaborations with Corky Siegel and the Siegel-Schwall Band) with the Saito Kinen Orchestra:

Given a choice, I prefer "Kate Bush Live at Hammersmith" to "Kate Smith Live in the Bush". Just saying!

I had a year of piano lessons and one thing I can tell from that picture is that there are way too many notes!

One of my favorites who did not achieve the recognition she deserves. "Luka" was a good song that had the misfortune of being overplayed and becoming the target of popular mirth. I don't think her career ever got out from under it.

I had no idea she achieved popularity. I just knew her from living in NYC in the mid '80s. Popular then and there. I never hear her songs on our local "Alternative" radio station or the NPR affiliate which normally plays that kind of music.
That someone would make a joke out of the song "Luka" is disgraceful.

People just got sick of hearing radio stations play it every 20 minutes. It was her one big hit.
