Took a real shower with the help of the wife so much better than wipes or sponge bath. She declined to offer HAWK TUAH but you can't blame a man for trying to get lucky. Watching Snowpiercer marathon getting ready for the final season. 95 in the swamp while we wait for the next hurricane. I'm about to go in for one, now. Will check with your missus. Good luck with that.

Couple of friends and I visited the Museum of the Fur Trade yesterday. This museum has managed to accumulate the most amazing collection of artifacts related to this period of American history. It deserves a lot more notoriety than it has gotten over the years it has been in existence. It also has one of the most amazing collections of firearms of the period, including the personal arms of many famous figures, such as Red Cloud, Kit Carson, and Tecumseh. Well worth a visit. That's nice. As Ron alluded to earlier, The buffalo bill museum in Cody, WY is amazing. I went there with my dad a couple months ago when I was up visiting him. centerofthewest.org/ The whole museum is huge, several branches off the main hall. The firearm museum is gigantic with ancient and modern firearms. It's one of those places where you need to spend a couple days at least to spend some time and try to see most everything.

It became too warm in the house, so I had to crank up the a/c. It's another lazy Summer day here and time for afternoon baseball on TV. The Yankees were beating the Red Sox 14-4 the last time that I checked and the Guardians vs Giants game is just starting. Play ball!

Another oddly cool day, here. High in the mid 80s, I think. A shame I've already done all the yard work that needs doing.
No new signs of mole activity out there. That makes 3 days in a row. Fingers crossed.

I moved the young Black Locust trees which were cut down and kept intact. These will make great latillas or poles for fence posts and other projects. I moved them, at last, out of the sun into a shed so they can cure slowly and not warp too much. Robina or Black locust is a very hard and strong wood, competing with hickory (Carya genus) as the strongest and stiffest domestic timber: but with more stability and rot resistance.
That was as much as could do outside in my present condition.

My own ATF facility.

Deere and I took a day trip today and went to Sparks Nevada to Scheels she has wanted to go the last couple of summers but today we finally made it. She found a couple pairs of nice jeans and I bought my first pair of tenner shoes in about a decade Sketchers. Then we met up with CrustyCat and went to lunch at a place Kevin knew of right around the corner brick oven pizza with antipasto plate before to share. Enjoyed the visit very much and was pleasantly surprised by a new pipe to smoke! After lunch we headed back to Scheels and rode the indoor ferris wheel. Did not end up spending the night but drove home.

Cool that you was able to meet up with Kevin, Ted! I have only been to Scheels twice, what impressed me is their inventory and staff.

The residential fireworks was a lot quieter this year than in years past with the illegal stuff. With all of the fires in the west over the last few years, and up in Kingman last year a guy with illegal fireworks accidentally burned a house down roasting the occupants and is now serving time for murder. An operation with 1 million dollars of illegal fireworks was busted in Chandler… Neighboring Mesa put this out, and I suspect my town was quietly enforcing the law when in years past they did not… ktar.com/story/5578675/over-1-million-in-illegal-fireworks-seized-by-mesa-police-the-week-before-fourth-of-july/"Mesa PD began a dedicated Fireworks Enforcement Operation on June 24 that resulted in these seizures, and it will have a dedicated team of officers working the holiday. Public Information Officer Brandi Meyers told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Tuesday this team will not respond to any 911 calls that don’t involve fireworks. There’s also a new online portal (https://mesaaz.citysourced.com/) for Mesa residents to report illegal firework use anonymously by providing any information or pinpointing locations along with any available pictures and video. It will be monitored 24/7 through July 6." Residents can also call Mesa PD’s nonemergency line at 480-644-2211 (tel:480-644-2211), email f ireworks@mesaaz.gov

We're back up into the 90s, today, after a couple of cooler days. High of 94 predicted. Now that I've got some string for my trimmer, I'll go out after the baseball game and do the trimming.

Rain is starting. They are saying it's from the storm but that's a long way off so I dunno.

We just had a thunderclap like I never heard in my life. I was on the front porch and there was a flash of light from the north that was blinding and I was looking down. 12 seconds later I was almost knocked off my chair by the thunder. It was insane! If we were near anything important I would swear we were nuked.

Dodgers lost. Yard work done. Grass trimming, more hedge and tree trimming, more vine pulling, and working on cleaning up the area outside my back gate since the owner of that property can't be bothered to do it. My shower now completed, I'm having some cookies and milk and catching up on the Patch.

Dodgers lost. Yankees 0-1 Red Sox in the bottom of the 7th. Yankees are looking rather ineffective.

As alluded to earlier, I got to meet Gypo and his lovely wife for lunch. Didn't get to spend as much time as I would have liked. I was trying to get back on my night shift schedule.

Arrived home yesterday evening from our 9 night vacation. That's why my posting has been sparse recently. We had a corporate shutdown (i.e. manadatory vacation) last week. So, we had no flexibility on when we were going to book a trip using our timeshare points. I had waited a bit too long to make a reservation and had booked only 61 days ahead. Nothing thing was available at our top three choices which were Williamsburg, Hilton Head Island, and Myrtle Beach. The only places where I could find 7 nights for the 4th of July week were Orlando, Phoenix, and Palm Desert. Orlando was the only one with average highs below 100. So, that’s where we ended up.
We decided to have a road trip adventure and drive the 1,200 miles. We did the drive over the course of two days. That left time only for minimal stops along the way. About 55% on day one and 45% on day two. With only about a 10 mile difference, we were able to, for about 500 miles, take different routes going and coming. On the way down, the western route was Ft Wayne, Indianapolis, Louisville, bypass Nashville, Chattanooga, overnight in Dalton, GA, then Atlanta and down to Orlando. Home was the eastern route of up to Atlanta, Chattanooga, then diverge to Knoxville, overnight in Clinton, TN, then Lexington, Cincinnati, Dayton, Ft. Wayne, and home.
In retrospect, a three day drive with time for a few stops to see the sights would have been more relaxing. The only non-necessary stop on the way down was in Georgia to buy peaches and pecans and a snack of boiled peanuts at a farm shop on the farm where the peaches and pecans had been grown. Of course, like all true road trips, Waffle House stops were included. Also, since we were passing Cincinnati at lunch time, we stopped at a Gold Star for some Cincinnati chili.
In Orlando, we had a two bedroom condo with fully equipped kitchen at Marriott Vacation Club Cypress Harbor which is very near to Sea World. We're not theme park people and the weather was in the 90s with periods of 90+% humidity and daily thunderstorms. So, we enjoyed our condo's air conditioning quite a bit. The smoking area outside our building had a nice bench under tree shade. A pleasant place to enjoy a pipe except sometimes a bit hot.
I did check a big item off my life list with a visit to Kennedy Space Center. I’ve driven past the place a few times when, in a past work life, I flew into Orlando and then drove over to Melbourne to sell embedded software to mil-aero companies.
We had some great meals with some of the most memorable being one at a Colombian restaurant, one at a Turkish restaurant, grilling filet mignons at the grilling station next to our building, a chance found Indian restaurant in Tipton, GA on our way home. It really is great to stay in a condo with a fully equipped kitchen. We enjoy having the option of not having to go out to eat for every meal. Whenever we use our timeshare points, I always enjoy grilling steaks at the condo.
I took today off of work to rest up from the drive. Back to the salt mine tomorrow.

No Ed again today? I guess he must be okay since he didn't say anything about having health problems when he popped in briefly on Sat. It's weird not seeing him around, though.
