I got back into pipes about 3 years ago and had 4 tins of tobacco, about 7 ounces, and had 3 pipes. 3 years later I just jarred up my latest purchase of tobacco and added up all that I currently have and it came out to 17.04 pounds. Plus 21 pipes
I’m addicted but having a lot of fun in the hobby

There are quite a few around here who would consider 17.4 lbs to be an okay start.

I have a feeling mine is probably a lot more than I think, but I still feel like a noob after 3 years.

I cracked a hundred pounds a while ago and swore I would buy nothing this month. I am not big on McC, though I love the Best of Show Aro and the Holiday Spirit. I still wound up buying four pound, as I wanted some straight red Va. Not only did it go out of stock right before checkout, but damned near all red Va went out. So, I bought some similar stuff and went overboard again. Who knew?

I swore when I came back from a little hiatus I was buying no more tobacco as I have over a 20 year supply. I reached out to jiminks and asked what new flakes I might like, just like a junkie asking his dealer for a fix. Of course he tells me about 3 blends he knows I will love. One being Butera Dark Stoved which of course is a MC blend, the other 2 were Curly Block and Salty Dogs. Now I have 140 tins of the Butera and well on my way to going nuts on the other 2. I am such a junkie.

However, when I look in my pipe-drawer, I have acquired, in 2 years, about 8-10 tins (not a lot, but loads for me) and about 7 pipes (with 2 more on their way). But having joined here all I can think about is the next pipe or the next tobacco...STOP IT. NOW...ALL OF YOU!!

I've a little under 1 kg on hand but am constantly trying to convince myself to take advantage of existing circumstances and acquire more. I've some friends coming over from Europe and the US over the next few months and I've s trong suspicion they'll be gifting me tobacco (probably nothing I'd buy myself but maybe I'll be pleasently surprised).

You own this one Hoss, you knew where you were headed when you punched in his number....more likely on speed dial! Reaching out to Jim Inks is like having a a life ring buoy thrown to you when you go overboard in the middle of an ocean. No rope on the end and the ring is made out of lead!. Sink or Swim! guessing we'll soon find out how eggs float on water.

I will take responsibility for my actions and admit I knew what I was doing when I reached out to him. No one put a gun to my head when I decided to try the recommendations, I could have just said no.

Scott, This thread is definitely makin me squirm uncomfortably as I read it. Realizing that your "addiction" makes my malady look more like the Zombie Pandemic situation like the movie World War Z... Although I smoked my first pipe over 35 years ago, as recently as 1 1/2 years ago I only had one pipe and 1 pouch of tobacco. Admittedly, I did have a couple of humidors full of cigars, but really only smoked a pipe a few times a year. Back in Oct. of 16 I found myself up in my mancave, a day or so after a poker party, and wanted to have a cigar and a glass of scotch. When I opened my humidors I realized all I had left were Cubans. Being as I save those for special occasions, I decided to grab my Nording Freehand and stoke it up with some Borkum Riff. As I was smokin my pipe I decided to start googling pipes and tobacco. THAT was the beginning of the end! ;-( Fast forward to today, my 1 pipe has somehow multiplied into over 90 (6 or so of those gifts from fellow pipers). The 1 pouch of tobacco has inexplicably morphed into something north of 75 or so lbs. Along the way the mancave (my home office) that had a desk, sofa and some bookshelves, has been transformed into Pipe & Cigar Lounge. If you find a cure for this ailment, I am most certainly in need of a treatment. thebriarpatchforum.com/thread/1477/mancave-redux-photosuckit-hostage-crisisthebriarpatchforum.com/thread/1668/new-seating-mancavethebriarpatchforum.com/thread/2305/impromptu-poker-game-mancavethebriarpatchforum.com/thread/2554/mancave-liberated-picture-heavy

I'll say it is a great hobby. I'll also say that it can run away with your wallet if you aren't careful. I have been a committed pipesmoker for a year or so. My first purchase was a few 2oz bags, 3 tins, and my Bjarne Viking- all from my local B&M. A year later and I find myself gentrifying another shelf for holding baccy. I now have a dozen respectable briars, at least a dozen MM cobs, roughly 18 pounds of bulk tobacco in jars, and somewhere in the vicinity 100-150 tins.
It hurts my bank account to read all that. Haha But the upside is that I have a serviceable rotation of pipes I adore and a decent cellar. I can comfortably say that I've hit a point where I can buy trial tins for fun and maybe take advantage of a sale to deepen my stores of favourites, but my big spending days are probably behind me.
Until I see a pipe I need. Haha And next month is B2G1 on H&H blends at P&C... So I'm sure I'll need to take advantage of that...
Yeah. I'm hopeless.

I'm also a junkie when Jim 'suggests' something.

It will never be cheaper or more available than it is now. As long as you jar it properly, it will hold fast and possibly improve over the years.

I’m gonna slow it down a bit but will still buy a bit each month. Nice thing is my tastes are not too expensive. I smoke velvet and ERR Match everyday so it gives the more premium stuff time to age.
