Snake makes some really nice tampers. I had him make me a pair just before Christmas and I couldn't be happier with how they turned out. Derrick really does nice work and he's great to deal with.

I just finished my "tree spirit" tamper. Lots of carving, sanding, and staining. He's not fancy, but he's one of the first things that I've ever carved, so I'm pretty happy. Comments and constructive criticism are certainly welcome! Cheers, JD Hey ! man thats a beauty ... Excellent work . Maybe varnish / shellac ? Thanks, Sal! I didn't end up doing anything else to it. I'm about to start working on another one, though.

ย I've looked at dozens of Snake's tamper on PSF, here's the one that got me to reach for my wallet. I don't know if it's his largest but it's gotta be close.ย Does anyone know what these Tiffany & Co "tampers" from the collection really are?
Rotary telephone dailers?

Made some new tampers that I plan to throw in the pot for the next raffle to support our Patch. Hope you like them and it helps draw some interest in keeping our Patch alive.

Those tampers look terrific, I like that you kept the shape of the wood naturally shaped and worked from there๐๐๐

Thanks, Ted...that was the idea...I'm no Snake...and his work is very nice, but I like the natural look.

Since this thread has been revived, here is my first attempt at a tamper. It matches my green cob.

I made one very different for AJ, called the twist. Iโve posted pictures prior and canโt find where I stored the few pictures I saved. He keeps the tamper near his favorite smoking chair๐
PS Very goid looking tamper Ken!!!

Nice tampers pepesdad1 and kbareit. Walt, how did you manage to get the nail into the wood without splitting it? Did you drill a hole first and then glue it in?

They're drilled and glued in place.

Paddy thought they were tapped thru from the other side. No, we donโt have nails here in the States that go around corners๐๐๐

Great. Now I have to get a Cramp pipe, a Walt stained cob AND tamper.
You guys are the worst enablers I've ever met.

Since my nap got interrupted today I loaded a pipe and went out to the shed. I grabbed a 1"x1"x5" block of oak that I had and began whittling away. This is the result so far. I'm not finished, I have some thinking to do about it and more sanding.
