My secret on Isopropyl is to use the green variety. Make sure it does not say MENTHOl. Pipe Sweeteners on sale for a few bucks a couple ounces are nothing more than Spearmint Alc. I got four 16 oz bottles for 8$ delivered. Good thing, as I always misplace them. Another not so secret are the crapgame mixes where you dump all your so-so vanillas or other things into one jar and let them become One with the Universe. Mixing different flavors, ie Cherry and Vanilla, are crapgame hybrids, but totally within rules. I managed some Dutch Chocolate English and Peach Ice Cream Float with crapgame's rules Great Subject, @10furlongs . All our notes in one thread david, Have you tried mixing peach tobacco with some raspberry tobacco? ..it is a make your own peach melba blend.. I have some test blends of Rasp and Black Rasp coming. If they have enough umph I will give it a try. Thanks

I too pull apart hot pipes, use isopropyl, and have no clue how to pack a pipe "properly". And I cannot stand my Radice Underwood that was a gift, so I quietly keep smoking it even though it turns into the surface of the sun no matter how gently I smoke. That is unheard of for a Radice. Is it broken in yet?

I use my torch lighter(Burner) after watching the Frank Method video on YouTube .
I now smoke cigars 80% of the time.

Yea, I've been called out...I honestly can't detect a burley from a Virginia from a perique. I can't detect the taste in aromatics - at least not what it says on the tin...Only thing I can detect is latakia. Phew. That felt good.

You keep your tobacco in a Persian slipper like Sherlock Holmes, maybe?

Confession: I used to like Captain Black and it was the only blend that I smoked. Oh, the shame of it... Hey man, you do you.
No shame.

I love the experience, the slow down of life, the art to packing and keeping the Tobacco lit... And I love the smell of the smoke... ...to name a few.

You guys like to talk about this stuff like it's bad! My grandfather, who is the one that started me up on pipes, always cleaned his as pipes when he was done for the day. The alcohol he used was in a little brown bottle, and he always "checked" it to make sure no one monkeyed with it.

Very often I smoke a pipe with a filter. Been doing it for years to eliminate tongue bite. When I use one depends on the blend (Aromatics and some Virgina blends). Sometimes I find the filter may on occasion mildly inhibit the taste and/or strength of the tobacco. This effect is so small that the reduction of incidents of tongue bite makes the choucea no-brained for me. YMMV!

Most smoke far superior then my Eltang Devil Anse....so, what’s in a name!!! I concur that the brand doesn't dictate smoking quality. Two excellently made pipes, from the same root burl, set side by side, may not "taste" as good as one another! Nevertheless, I enjoy brand names because I sometimes like the "house style." The joy of a particular shape, or stain, or flourish adds a little bit to my smoking pleasure.

Is it broken in yet? I'm 30+ bowls into it, so maybe it's just taking forever to break in. Very thin walls because of the Underwood deal- I think that's the problem, though I could be wrong.

I have Understoods that aren't thin, but I can see how that could happen. 30 bowls is a pretty good start.

Maybe more of a tip than a confession...
I use falcon filters in my cobs, but I cut them in half so I get twice as many from one bag.
