Confession: My most sublime smoking experiences have been when the pipe smoking was the background and i was focused on something else, the music I was listening to, the book I was reading, the music I was playing, the conversation i was having.

My favorite pipes are acrylic stemmed. My confession is that I'd like to replace every vulcanite stem I have with an acrylic one.

That's interesting. Some of my best experiences with my pipe have been in the presence of others where the pipe itself is simply the means to bring us together. This is why I'm envious of the pipe meetings I see pictured here at times.

Sometimes I'm not always truthful with my wife about my pipe and tobacco purchases.

...I understand "straight" grain and "flame" grain and I've been listening to people extolling their virtues for 45 years, and, yes, they are nice to look at... doesn't make a damn bit of difference in how they smoke, IMHO... I like birdseye the best, but agree. Some of my best smoking pipes are the homeliest and cheapest.

I prefer to see it more as a matter of selectively rationalized information provided on a need-to-know basis. When you consider what they pay in Canada, for example, it probably really was 60% off. Or if you accept P&C's claims of MSRP and how much the regular price was already reduced, then you get 15% off that, 60% is probably not much of an exaggeration.

Good Lord gentleman, you're right! Tonight I too will gloat about how much I have saved. *And they never heard from McWiggins again.* On the other hand, why change what is already working. lol

She would always say I won $100 this weekend forgetting that she put $800 in to get that $100 out. The one time I tried to justify a large purchase by pointing out how much I saved by buying in bulk and making sure I hit the free shipping target, I was sharply reminded of dear old grannies failings.

Sometimes I'm not always truthful with my wife about my pipe and tobacco purchases. 100% honesty is death for a marriage. Over half of the questions that my wife asks me are things that she doesn't want a honest answer to. 42 years in and going strong.

I have a dozen Radices and I smoke them rarely because I don't want to spoil my enjoyment of my other 160 lesser pipes.

I consider selling these on a weekly basis: Actually been updated with a couple higher grades since this pic. Not too many in a single collection like this anyplace. I'd be fine without them and it's getting time....

Although not one for confessions, I will confess to feeling, at times, like a person born in the wrong time. I prefer movies from the 30's and 40's. My favorite music is jazz from the 40's and 50's. I'll take Frank Sinatra over anyone carrying a tune alive today. I prefer scotch and soda for my "social" drink. Many of my views on the world are considered out dated. And, I prefer pipes that were born in the same time frame. But, as I am typing this on a MacBook Pro enjoying the gift of air conditioning, I am certainly not a slave to my passions

I've seen how sticky dried Coca Cola makes floors and tables. I would have never had the nerve to put it in my stems. What prompted you to use it on your pipes in the first place?

As time goes on and things change we all have more options. There is no law that says we have to adopt the latest and greatest. We can pick and chose from among modern and older fashions and hobbies and paraphernalia. So for example I can text friends and family. That doesn't mean I can't send someone a hand written note. I can smoke a clay pipe. It doesn't mean I need to wear a tricorn hat. So for me, I don't want to go back in time, or that I would have rather lived there, just that there are things of the 20s and 30s that were so great I think they still are great. Its 2018 but we can still drink an old fashioned together.

I do not obsess over packing my pipe.
I grab my tobacco and pipe, stuff it full, tamp it down a bit (usually with my finger) and light. I never seem to have a problem.
The Geezer Pack is my MO for pouches.
The only exception is flakes and coins. Most of the time I fold and stuff.

What I don't like is that others tend to put labels on things that we do. So if I want to smoke a pipe and have a beard, but I'm not retired I'm suddenly a hipster. Eh? No.

Sometimes when no one is looking I flip my wrist to sling the moisture out of my pipe shank onto a piece of newspaper or a paper towel rather than use a pipe cleaner. There, I said it.

I wish jazz was more popular than it currently is, and that smoking was still as socially acceptable as drinking. Times dont always change for the better, but that doesnt mean we cant hold onto and appreciate the awesome of the past. I love men's clothing from thay era too, I wish it was more Affordable Today.

I agree, but I'm also a hypocrite about smoking: as a zealously ex-cigarette smoker, I'm really glad they're banned in most public places because they smell foul and make me cough (I don't do that overly dramatic coughing thing at the merest whiff, but if I get a full frontal inhalation of second hand smoke it's like an allergic reaction). But I'd have no problem if pipes and cigars were allowed in restaurants again.
