I would rather listen to rap, (if it is not vulgar, viloent or masogenistic), over screamo, death metal or most so called modern country; with it's twangy forced vocals. I also don't want to hear any autotuned pop, where the singer is hiding their voice behind the effects.

Im gonna let the cat out of the bag here. Like The Highlander, I too am one of the immortals. My age? I'm wicked old. Like, I knew Jesus as a kid kind of old. With that said, music just hasnt been good to me since 72AD. I am Music and I write the songs! I'm standing on the edge of time.

One of my sons was into it. Emo with screamed vocals. Made blood shoot out of my eyes.

...and while we're on the subject... I like LOTS of music that is not of the '50s/'60s generation, going way the heck back before the turn of the 20th Century. But Rap? Sorry kids, that ain't music. Rap is like any other element in a composition, it’s not much on its own but part of a whole that is the music. I mean, drums are atonal but undeniably an element of composition, right? I think Jay-Z is the master of this: But I don’t think it would be controversial to say that e.g. the Bomb Squad is at least as important as Public Enemy themselves. Nay. Drums are not atonal. Last time I checked, they are tuneable.

Wow, this tread really took off.
Generally, I avoid all the awards shows, I am not into any group of individuals fawning all over each other, and nowadays there always has to have politics injected into it.
Never understood the hat on backwards, hang your butt out of your pants, and whites and blacks try to be ghetto.

Also know as Cookie Monster Vocals. I don't know how anyone can listen to metal? "I think I'll go out on the deck to smoke my pipe and relax. How can I facilitate that? I know, lets crank up some Kill Yo Mama music" I mean really, what can you do to that crap other than kill someone?

Chronic was Dr Dre and Snoop Dogg. Legend has that Jaz Z had Biggie Smalls killed so he could steal his music. Jay Z and Smalls had successfully collaborated on many songs. Smalls Is what we could called a illiterate genius his songs were not all about hate and murder and in the late 90s no one really cared about Jay Z. The other legend is jay Z also called the hit on Tupac and stole his music as well. Anyway after the talent was out of the way Jay Z was sitting on the lyrics. After that Jay Z suddenly had catchy rhymes. I could tell you the whole story but we would need a fresh bottle and snacks.

Maybe it's the same reason I wore old suits from goodwill covered in band patches with combat boots- All the nonsensical punk rock rebel ethos and politics aside, I simply dug the music and lifestyle and wanted to be identifiable to others of a like mind and at the same time, let the squares know to look the other way. haha Now that I'm old and fat and have all the friends I need(most of them squares ), I dress like every other guy on the street.

Um.... no qualms about quoting that lyric in the context of African-American musicians? Please do not try to assign your perceptions onto me....so you think African Americans look like chimpanzees? I know that Grand Kleagle Byrd, Northam might have the same view. I don't think of people as African-Americans...they may be Americans with African roots, but many have been here longer than many whatever self identified hyphenated group is out there.

I hear you...I wore baggies, and whaler bell bottoms, had a leisure suit...never made it to parachute pants and a mullet though. Belt (if there is one) under the level of the testicles with underweared butt hanging out just always seemed pretty lame to me.

I saw a few episodes of Cops! Where the tactical sag didn’t work out well for the perps... you look cool running from the cops, but the goose egg and the head, not so fashionable.
