I'd like to suggest that folks actually rate the movie they mention. Might as well be out of ten.
Hugo. [2011] Incredible photography and settings, good cast. 8.0/10

Saw Knives Out with Daniel Craig ( affecting a US southern accent), Jamie Leigh Curtis, Christopher Plummer and a bunch of other notable stars. Really enjoyed it. A mystery almost along the lines of Clue. The death of a wealthy writer in his gothic home in New England and the ensuing bickering of the presumed heirs over the will. Just pure entertainment on a winter day and worth the time to watch it.

Joker (2019). It didn't feel like my generations Taxi Driver and there were just too many Dutch angles to take the director seriously. My sister feels it's an important movie so maybe it just didn't do it for me. I might just be too close to the source material to appreciate DC comics movies.

Trumbo. The Hollywood blacklist. McCarthy hearings. Brian Cranston. Very good story of the times of Congress "investigating" the penchant for a few dozen film writers to join the communist party in the US, and the fear that it caused, and the serious repercussions on many in the industry. 9/10.

Jumanji 2. Laughed my arse off. The character acting is insanely brilliant and makes the movie even better. Solid 9/10. If you haven’t seen the first one though, watch it before you go. Makes it better.

McCarthy was over the top at the time and quite a drunk, but he was right about FDR’s administration being a hotbed of communists, decades later the declassified intercepted Venona cables confirmed it. Day of the Badman, starring Fred MacMurray. Not a bad old Western. I rate it 5.5 out of 10.

Watched John Wick chapter 3 last night. It was OK... Totally OTT but I'm OK with that. However, I never knew a handgun could shoot about 30 rounds or a pump action shotgun could shoot about 12 rounds without reloading. Who knew? 🙄
I'd give it a 6.5/10

The original or was this a re-make? The original! No need for a remake. A very 1970 movie.

We have 14 shot shot shotguns, 30 round pistols and 60 round rifles. All legal for now. I don't know where it ends.

The original or was this a re-make? The original! No need for a remake. A very 1970 movie. Except it was made in 1966-1967. Close enough! One great movie. That cast was superb in every role. Robert Ryan was so good. Ralph Meeker. Just filled with greats from that period. Seen it many times and each opportunity reminds me of the first viewing in a theater in 1967. 9.8/10 is about right but I am leaning to 9.95/10.

I watched nightcrawler tonight with the wife. It was very well played by Jake G, and it was tense in places...uncomfortable too. Very well done.
I'd give it an 8/10.

"The Big Sleep", 1946.Bogart, Bacall, Elijah Cooke, Jr., and a host of 1940s Warner Brother' s regulars. Loosely, and I mean loosely, based upon Raymond Chandlers first successful Detective novel. Seen it many times and it never fails to please. The chemistry between Mr. and Mrs. Bogart is just too good. The plot never quite resolves but no one seems to care including the Writers.
9.5/10.

We watched Spider-man Far From Home. Lots of fun visuals. BUT, WAY TOO MUCH Teenage drama!
My problem with the Marvel and DC movies is that they have not established what is canon. (What is the accepted lore / history?) Are they working in the world of comics with a 60+ year history, or are they starting new with just the movies?
Is Spider-Man a 15 year old, or an experienced superhero?

"Richard Jewel". Clint Eastwood's biopic of the security guard who spotted a suspicious package and acted promptly. No fast enough to avoid casualties but lives were saved. Then falsely suspected by the FBI and lambasted by an over ambitious newspaper reporter.
Excellent job by all involved. You southern boys will appreciate the actor portraying Jewel. Although Jewel passed on in 2007, his Mama consulted in the development of his character. He was a genuinely, nice, soft spoken, gentle Southern man, who wanted to do good by helping people. Not the brightest guy, but a sincere and decent sort. Most of us have known someone like Richard.
The FBI was not experiencing their finest hour in this story. They got hung up on psychological profiles instead of physical evidence. If the story is true then they engaged in some questionable techniques in questioning Jewel.
An ambitious newspaper reporter helped blow the investigation out of proportion and comes to realize the error of her ways.
I give it a 9.5/10 and recommend seeing it. You will enjoy it.

I always watch the Oscar Best Picture nominees before the awards. I finished the list yesterday with 'Parasite.' I don't want to give away spoilers, so I'll just say it starts slow but goes batshit about halfway through. Excellent film - 9/10
My rankings of the BP contenders:
Once Upon a Time...in Hollywood Parasite 1917 Little Women Joker The Irishman Marriage Story Ford v Ferrari Jojo Rabbit

\ My next door neighbor, whilst she lived, was an Academy Member and received all those movies on DVD. She would share them with me which I enjoyed greatly. She passed on to the Theater of Heaven and her daughter never notified the Academy. So, for years the movies kept coming. Finally, she moved and the movies kept coming by Fed Ex and would be deposited with me as the neighbor. That finally stopped some years ago. I sure enjoyed it while it happened.

Stayed up way too late and watched Ant-man (2015) last night ... kind of a long movie but fairly entertaining.

Where'd You Go, Bernadette. Fairly disappointing overall, but I love to watch Cate Blanchette act. I never read the book, but it seems to get higher ratings than the movie. If you're a Blanchette fan you might like this, otherwise... not impressed. 5/10
