Too bad about Leo. Sounds like one of those dogs that grew up without any discipline whatsoever. Dogs want to be a certified member of your pack, but they need guidance. No telling what they’ll turn into when they don’t get it. Like Leo. Yeah, the best dog we ever had was a rescue dog...A golden lab mix named Roxie. But in that case we hit the dog lottery...it broke our hearts to say goodbye to Leo, but it just could not work for us. It could be worse...foster parents getting a Jeffrey Dahmer type person.

Reminds me of the baths I got at my grandma's house when there was no indoor plumbing...I was treated like a dog!
But I didn't know better.

I was at the front gate waiting for the neighbors to pick my up for dinner, the ones who never showed, and a Pit Bull comes waddling up to the closed gate. I hear his human shouting and cursing at him which he ignores. Now, strange Pit Bulls are hard to read. One moment they seem friendly or at least calm, the next they are tearing one's limb off. I called out to him and spoke with affection as I like dogs. He came close to the gate and seemed to want in. Then his owner arrived on foot carrying not a leash but a shovel. Not a good sign. Anyway, "Rubble" likes to wander being a curious boy. I loaned his human a horse lead to he could take the pooch back to where he was visiting. He attached it to the spiked collar. This hound was about as bow legged as I have seen. A walking mass of muscle. I felt he probably was a good boy if handled with care and good feeling but, again, it is so hard to know with this breed. He growled at his human. So, I am do know how they are together. Shovel, yelling, growling are not good indicators.

I don’t trust pits. They march to a different drummer.

I don’t trust pits. They marched to a different drummer. Yeah… really sad. I saw so many in the pound and you do not know the history, and nobody does so they are euthanized. You just cannot take the chance especially with small grandkids. Sucks!

The amazing bendable Shorthair. Eli stands 25” at the shoulder. His head is 10” long. When he sits to check out the dining table his eyes are 4” above the table-top. When he flops down on the bed for a night’s sleep he tucks himself into 12x17”. Yep, he could use a man’s handkerchief as a bedsheet. Uncomfortable? Evidently not as he doesn’t move for 8 hours. He could easily curl up on an airline seat with space to spare. I’ve long admired the scrunchability of Shorthairs.

Great Danes are the same way. Except, the eyes are over the counter tops, not the table. 😄

Molly the Lab chewed up all the good throwing sticks on the back 40, so I bought a couple of rubber/plastic ones she couldn't easily destroy, and she is a big fan. First time I threw one for her, she ran to get it, picked it up, dropped it, picked it up, dropped it, stood there and looked at it for a bit, danced around it, barked at it, then picked it up and ran around in circles with it. She didn't even want to play fetch anymore. She just wanted to charge around with her toy.
She did eventually bring it back over my direction, but she wouldn't ever let me get hold of it. She'd prance around me, just out of reach, tossing her head, then skitter away and lay down and chew on it. I'd say she's pretty pleased.

You could try hanging a pork around your neck to get the dog to play with you on the odd chance it might work.

Every year, the same scenario: At peak color, mid-October, we will have a rain, often after a dry spell. The next day leaf-fall will commence. Often the leaves will be just about gone in a couple of days. This year the tradition held, but we have a warm snap that seems to be holding on to them. But the ground is covered with leaves, and the rest will soon follow.

When I lived in TX, I had a friend who used to say autumn in Texas is "that day in November when all the leaves turn brown and fall off."
