I just watched School of Rock with my children. I hadn't seen it since it was released. The girls loved it.

Just finished an English made Documentary titles "Lancaster". If interested in WW2 history, this is worth a watch.
Interviews with flight crew members from WWII. Their experiences with the plane.
Allbeit a bit cramped, even for those smaller stature Englishmen, crews considered it a fine airplane. With four Rolls Royce "Merlin" engines, how far wrong could one go in designing a heavy bomber?
The crewmen also commented on their part in the war and their leader, General Harris, aka, "Bomber Harris", strategy for ending the war. Feelings vary.
I recall a Lancaster flyover in London in 1990. The day "The Battle of Britain's 50th Anniversary" was celebrated. Quite a gathering, I forget where exactly where located in central London. The Queen Mother was there. Wife of George VI and mother of Elizabeth II, Old Queen Mum stayed in London all through the war with her people. A flight of Hurricanes went over, low and not too fast. The crowd cheered. Then came a formation of Spitfires, faster and louder. The Queen Mother spoke some more about those years and the sacrifices of so many. The sky became darker as high clouds moved in. Then came a sound I shall never forget. Off to the south, a rumble of four somewhat synchronized Rolls Royce Merlin V-12s. Suddenly, a single Lancaster popped out of the clouds overhead. Flying quite slow. It was majestic. The crowd really poured on the applause. This was the weapon which ended the war and saved the nation. Not to diminish the role of the US Army Air Force in England, but, these folks love their Lancaster bomber.

Sounds like a good time. When I drove around San Antonio a lot the shadows of the B52s made me very nervous, and the fighter pilots loved to terrorize people driving on one road I had to drive on every day.

Network (1976). Still rings true. I saw it as a play recently; the production was great, especially with regards to the multimedia set up. I think the Faye Dunaway role (played by Zuria Vega) didn't hold up as well as some of the others. I don't think she's relatable anymore as no one was raised by Connie Chung the same way they were raised by Walter Kronkite. Also, the media savvy terrorist group no longer surprises given how Al Qaeda and some others have had large self produced media presences.

I know what you mean, Ron. Having been the target (on a tractor) of a practice strafing run by a pod of F86s as a kid.

Since we are sharing stories of being Buzzed by Fliers...
2001, I am driving my old 2-ton flatbed up a dirt road on the nearby llano when a roar and a blast comes through my rolled down windows. I look to the east and a B-1 Bomber has passed overhead about 100 feet. He had to climb sharply to get over the nearby mesa which is only 300 feet. That angle of flight enabled me to identify the plane.

Watched BELFAST last night. Interesting and I enjoyed it, but it somehow seemed pinched and constricted. In that sense very much like DUNKIRK, which I thought was a disaster as a film, never living up to the scale and enormity of the actual events. Same here. I don’t at all dislike Branagh, but I do find him uneven and a bit quirky.
And I wonder why films about Belfast always seem to be in B&W. I’ve been in Belfast and unless my memory fails me there was color there— on most days at least.

BTW, my avatar pic is a pretty accurate rendition of Eli’s first minutes of a new film. He’ll watch avidly for the first few minutes, but since they are not in Shorthair he quickly loses interest. The exception is when they have animals in them. He watched a great deal of RACING IN THE RAIN when Enzo the dog was on screen. Dogs are not supposed to see 2D imagery, but I don’t think that is strictly true.

Prizzi's Honor. Great movie for a flick with no good people in it. Haven't seen it in 20 years or more. best line :

I am under an official USAF flyway, literally a Highway in the Sky. So, many planes have passed overheard between 200 and 400 feet. B52, B1s, Ospreys, all manner of Fighters, Tankers. During the Gulf War, it was so busy here with close ground training flights, I wanted to paint a USAAF Rondell on my metal roof. In honor of my Uncles who flew in WW2.

I figured I might get a "Wing Rock" from the USAF planes passing overhead.

Luca, at least 50 times over the last month.
It's one of the least crappy Disney movies that has been released in the last several years.

My mom still has all of our VHS Disney movies that my sister and I had. I have Disney+ so the little ones can watch whatever they want.
I'm surprised they didn't edit out the cigar, pipe, or hookah in Alice in Wonderland yet. They took Mickey's pipe from him... I bet he's pissed!

Last night watched Ridley Scott's 2005 movie, "The Kingdom of Heaven".
Quite entertaining but hardly a lesson in Medieval History. At least not as I read it years ago.
Saladin was well portrayed by a notable Syrian actor. Fairly, I think.
The Crusaders, well, they seem to have mellowed some except for the Knights Hospitallers.
Certainly worth a watch. Liam Neeson was fun. Makes a good Medieval Baron.

Bittersweet ending. I saw the book laying on the coffee table at the job I was at today. Judging by the thickness of it, I figured a lot got left out of the movie. It happens when books go to the theater though. Forrest Gump was a good example of that.

The only movie in my recollection that it lived up to the expectations of the book was Lonesome Dove, the cast and story translated well to the big screen.
sablebrush (notoriously absent member) was part of the team that put the phenomenal movie together.
