The dog chewed the stem off my Rad Davis squat tomato so I contacted Walker pipe repair for the new stem. Two E-mails later the pipe was shipped to them. Received my pipe back in 4 weeks and was VERY pleased with the quality and the price. Would highly recommend them.

I enjoy 2-3 per week. Primarily Oliva Nubs in the various configurations. I stock up when they go on sale for $3.33 a stick stub.
An hour smoke works for me.

I'm sorry to see it end. There were some good discussions among the members, and although I posted there little I always included it in my daily reading of the pipe boards.
I've always thought of forum communications as being delicate. Mixing a wide spread of personalities involved in discussions without the benefit of face to face inflection calls for careful choices of words. This forum seems to have gotten around that problem.

Fascinating, this cigar rolling. I watched a guy in Vegas rolling and he slowed down and explained the technique. He sat me down and had me try one but it was a disaster. He laughed and told me I had too many thumbs. Hats off to you and anyone else with this ability.

I just run pipe cleaners through until they come out clean, fold one in half to brush the chamber walls and sop up any moisture in the bottom of the bowl and back in the rack it goes. For thorough cleaning after a few smokes I remove the stem and run cleaners moistened with Bourbon through it and the airway to the bowl. Fold a cleaner in half and scrub the mortise and clean the tenon. Clean any soot from the rim of the bowl (spit on a cloth) and reassemble. Wipe the exterior down with a cloth, clean any tarnish on the silver if you have any, and finish the Bourbon. After cake has built up you'll have to ream the chamber to the thickness desired, and there's lots of tools /methods to accomplish this. If I've missed anything someone will add it,,,and I may learn a thing or two.

Sweet pot. Lots of grain, stem color compliments it. I got a notice they were having a sale and avoided the site

I bulked some standards, PS flakes, McC 5100, 2015, and 2000, J. Patton Stormfront, GLP Union Square, Solani Silver Flake, and HH Mature VA.
A few others got jarred like Boswell Dans Blend, but the above tobaccos represent my rotation. Price and availability are major factors although smoking aged weed has its benefits.
My tins are all over the place as far as brands in the VA. and VaPer categories, mostly flakes and available only in tins, which is why I bought them.

15 miles north of us more than 3 feet of lake effect snow has fallen and it continues.

The holiday season here seems crazy with 25-30 for Thanksgiving, two weeks later 30-35 for a pre Christmas celebration because some family can't be here for Christmas, and about 30 passing through for brunch on Christmas eve allowing separated parents to share the 13 grandkids. New Years eve is a quieter time with most everyone showing up one time or another for snacks on their way to parties, dropping the grandkids for the night. This is when we go over the Christmas pictures and enjoy each other and what we missed during the mayhem. In the morning it's breakfast at the fire pit stuffing the kids with pancakes and smores which has become a tradition.
It's a busy time of the year here and I'm glad friends and family can get together and put aside the daily worries for a bit.

The fact that "match" blends are being offered for discontinued OTCs says a lot.

Early summer I received a a small mystery sample with a tobacco order which had a background flavor of chocolate. (yeah, I forgot where it came from) I smoked it up and thought no more about it, went back to my usual VAs and was happy. I recently had a yen for chocolate flavor and ordered some Chocolate Silk hoping it would hit the spot.
Black Cavendish and golden Virginias are seasoned with dark chocolate and nougat to create a smooth, elegant evening smoke, gentle yet full-flavored.
Just as the description says there's a 70/30 mix (est.) of cavendish to light colored VAs. The tin smell is of molasses and a slight hint of cocoa. A bit of drying time was needed but it lit nicely and evenly. The flavor is slight, lacking the cocoa backbone I hoped for. I can best describe it as "sweet" without any real direction. It burns well enough and I waited for some flavor to develop as it wandered down the bowl, but it didn't happen. Room fragrance is pleasant coming from a cob, meer lovat, and briar bulldog. As a disclaimer, I've never been sharp on picking out flavor nuances from tobacco. Hints of leather and oak evade me and my taste buds, it seems, have retired. This blend didn't do it for me, but YMMV.

It is after experiments like these that I really think to myself that I should leave this shite to the professionals. While it's fun to play around with creating your own mixes, it's friggin time consuming. After numerous attempts at a rum/Burley blend sweetened by a touch of Va using multiple techniques I've come to the realization I'm better off spending the time picking lint from my belly button. I can't please my taste buds. Maybe my expectations are too high, and I'm lacking in the basic blending skills to produce an end product I feel represents the sum of its parts. In any case I'm always extremely interested in reading of any attempt at working toward success. Good luck to all.

A tin of RO Series Acadian Gold. from Pipes and Cigars
Lestrout posted on this and it caught my eye. It's the first "new" tobacco I've ordered in many moon as I rarely fall for the hype surrounding them. What piqued my interest was Canadian Gold Virginia processed in the same way as Perique. It's supposed to have a unique malty flavor which interests me. At $20 a tin it's not cheap but they only processed 2 barrels.

Welcome Don. I always seem to smoke more cigars than pipe in the summer too. I don't really know why, guess it's more of a hectic pace than when I'm snowed in.

I was put on meds for high blood pressure and borderline diabetes, but I hate taking anything ,,,even aspirin, so I decided to scrap that plan and lost some weight by altering my diet a bit and reducing carbs. It solved both problems for me, but everyone is different. Of course every doctor has their own idea of what "high" blood pressure is.
I'd say as far as alcohol and tobacco consumption check your course as you go.

Juan, your English is fine. Three pipes? Good start, but I'll bet the farm that's not the end of it.
